Ace Hardware Black Friday Ad Removed

I'll just copy the message I posted on the BF site:

Today we received a request from Ace Hardware to remove their ad and so we have complied with their request. However, before everyone gets up in arms and threatens to boycott Ace, be aware that they don't have a problem with the ad being posted on the site early. Their issue is more that the ad has not been finalized and will likely change, perhaps significantly, before Black Friday. This happened with their ad last year, which was also the first ad of the year posted. They would like to minimize any confusion experienced by their customers.

As a gesture of good will, they have even offered to provide us with a copy of the ad as soon as it is finalized. From their letter: "When this ad is finalized and released for print in early November, our Advertising department will be more than happy to supply you with the final, approved copy."

If you had added items to your shopping list, those items will remain saved on your list and will appear once the final ad is re-posted, assuming those items are still in the ad. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience, but rest assured as soon as we receive the finalized ad, it will be posted.

ACE= Class and cooperation. I posted on another thread that this is exactly what retails should be doing in these tough economic times. Work with Gottadeal to get out the correct information and have people fired up about Black Friday. Not whine, complain, and threaten legal action.

ACE earns a major :gdthums: in my book.

I usually hit Ace on my way home. Most of the good stuff is gone by then, but there's always something to make the rebate worthwhile. I applaud their polite, professional exchange with GD. It's good business. I begin working on my lists early in the season and rarely visit stores that hold on to their ads until the end -- there's just no time to research and plan.

The idea of an advertisement is to be seen by as many people as possible, so I shake my head when merchants demand their ads not be seen.

thats a bummer but as least they were nice about it. however, i DONT like that i have to wait until early november, lol.

If you have already looked at the ad that was posted you can go into your history and pull it up. Then save it on your computer for comparison when they officially release the ad.

I just thanked them, I think it is awesome that they try to help us instead of threatening legal action and hiding behind their corporate lawyers like SOME companies do! This is what I wrote:

As a member of Gotta Deal's Black Friday Forum, I wanted to thank ACE for their wonderfully courteous, accomodating method of allowing us to view your Black Friday ad when it is finalized. We appreciate stores that actually want our business and work with us instead of threatening legal action. It is nice to see a business that recognizes early release ads for what they are - a way to get potential shoppers super-hyped about shopping at their store! Thanks so much for being an innovative leader and giving us this opportunity!

Hope the right people see it so they know they are doing the right thing and continue it!
