first i would like to say if this is the wrong spot please move.

 

last night i came home from work and had 7 messages on my phone. i never ever listen to them so glad i did. it was kmart.com and bestbuy.com calling to confirm i made these purchases. that i needed to call them right away. so i tried calling bestbuy and well they were closed at 630. it was the theift dept. so i went on to call kmart. but in doing so i logged on to my one cking act. only to see all my money but 500. was already taken out of my cking act.yes i was in tears they stoped the purchase on both cause now i called bestbuy off my credit card and got threw. but the point is they got my mac card. so i thought about it where did i go wrong, i truley think it was so my mistake being taken by a a scam . sat or sunday i kept getting booted on my desk top. and a box would come up, saying it was aol and i needed to update my billing info. i never ever do them i usllay just reboot. which i had dont 5 or 6 times and finally said ok it really must be aol. i think this is when they got my card info. the police seem to think it might hae been comprimised prior. but i dont i had no reason to think anything piror to my mistake. so i want to let you all know . if u keep getting booted and use aol. and a box comes up looks ligit says aol . asking for you to update your billing info. DONT DO IT. i should have known more due to i dont pay for aol. but i figured it was ok as this is what i use to do is pay them threw this. police seem to think aol was trying to confirm who i was. due to it was already comprimized but i cant see how. i have not purchased anything in over a month i think the last thing was amazon rockband lighintning. so if this should happen to u. please dont do it. i have so many calls to make today due ot all this.to protect my self in the future no less. then the cop tells me the kid that robbed me almost 2 yrs ago that just moved like 2 months ago has been hanging in town and one block from my house. and did not move to pa. so now the fear of him again is all in my head . sorry just venting now. not my intention.ok ill update u with more later.. ohh ya the best buy purchase was a computer item and 600.00 and was being sent to ga. anyone know who it is ? lol ok trying to find humor in this all. sorry. have a good day.

btw, i don't know if you know, but the max liability that you're responsible is like $50 for your checking account if u notify your card company within 2 days. (credit card has longer...about 30 days i think) so even though it's awful that someone's doing this to you, you should not have to shell out that much money...i learnt this in one of my classes last semester. here's a link for you to check out the facts:

we had a similar situation a few years back. I traveled to Alaska to visit my SIL and my DH stayed home to work. We got a call from one of our credit cards asking if we had been to New York and MAssachusetts in the past week. I told them no, the last purchase on that card was my ticket to AK. he said that they see that purchase but someone was using that card in those states and bought $198 worth of music CD's, $150 at a restaurant and $250 at the grocery store.

 

I told them no, it wasnt us but that person is living really good, lol. I hardly spend $250 a month at the grocery store, lol. so they closed the account and did not let them charges go thru. It was a mess to go thru but our CC company was really good about it. I feel your pain. (((HUGS)))

ty you so much for the info. i will read it in a min. i have been so upset.i guess it really hit me after wrting this this am. cause on the way to work i cried the whole way there and broke down in work. the bank wont do anything due to its in pending mode . that is what stinks . called ortage co they said ohh im sorry ok ill put it in notes then she says to me so when will u make htis payment now? i was like did u hear what i just said . i have nothing im cashing in bonds to get it but not this sec. she says well when do u think . i said u know what this conversation is going no place and has no ended and hung up on her. my boss was like ohh god here she goes. cause man do i have amouth lol. i did get the credit thing to put a flag on all three comp. today. called a few cc closed and got new cards. couldnt get ss to help in anyway i guess i will have to go there in person. ohh then one of my cc would not let me do anyting even tho im on the act its hubbys so i could not close it. wth. so i think i will take a loan from my 401 to pay what ever and i cashed in some bonds today so it dont get bad. i figure what ever i get back i get back. at least i wont have issues to deal with. thanks for all your thoughts

You should be able to get it all back unless they charge a $50 fee. My bank put all the money back in my account after someone went on a spending spree with my stollen card, but it did take 3 pr 4 weeks, everything had to clear first and then I had to sign an afidavid (sp?) that it wasnt me. Sorry you are going through this and your mortgage company couldnt give you a little slack. Hope it all works out. Best Wishes!

Whatever you do...do not cash in any of your 401k monies. Beg and/or borrow from friends or family if you need money temporarily until this issue is resolved. You will get hit with big penalties ---taxes, etc.---from early retirement withdrawals.

Ohh Im Not Cashing In The 401 Barrowing The Money From It And Paying My Self Back. Not To Bad And As Soon As I Get The Money Back I Will Pay It Off. I Would Never Cash It In.. I Worked To Hard To Get It Lol.. Not About To Loose More.. Just My Mind. .. So Now The Story Gets Intresting..

Best Buy- Guess Were He Works? And Was Not Able To Leave The State Due To Probation And His Family Packed Up To Pa.

Kmart- Humm His Sister Is Manager There. Wonder If He Found A Way To Scam Me And Has Always Had My Info And Waited. I Have Not Told The Detective Yet . But I Will Tomorrow. When I Pick Up The Report. Just To See What They Think Now. Makes Me Wonder Due To He Has Been In The Area Again.

gave the info to the detective, been a crazy wk . i just layed in bed and cried most of the time. on friday morning hubby tells me i have a problem . i said what cause i dont htink i can take much more. he took my car to work and well some kids smashed the driver window. uhhhgg , have to say tho. i handled it much better then i thought. lol i had to pay due ot ded. so good thing i work for dealership and got it all done at cost. 254.00 and i new people at the maker of my car as its not my dealership . i did get y money back not as fast as i would have liked . changed my acts. and i still have more work to do to protect myself and still doing. hubbys boss was so nice she showed up at work when he gets there at 11 and gave him 1000.00 he refused the ck she tried giving and came with cash the next day lol she is a sweet heart i will have to get her a gift card or something when all is said and done.and her money to her lol as we wont touch it its hidden to hand back to her lol. but tells ya there are great people out there . well thanks for all your prayers. and thoughts . anything happens ill let ya know.

I am so sorry to hear this. I work at a credit union and we are seeing more and more of our members with fraud on their accounts. Typically the members get there money put back in there account once the paperwork is complete and the items come through on there account as you can't dispute pending items they must clear first. I pray everything works out and that you stay encouraged.

Having been an AOL member for nearly 20 years (before they were actually AOL), they have always had the policy of never asking you for any personal or account info..... ever.

 

Whenever a company calls talks to my wife regarding a bill and offers to take a phone payment she refuses and tells then she will make payment at a store or call back a known legitimate number at a later time.

 

Point is.... never reply directly to anyone who requests personal info over a phone, or online. While it won't guarantee total security, it will get you very close to it.

i so agree with u, like i said i was dumb. but the like i said im not sure where it was taken. could have been me, could have been something else they got due to my bills were never paid last month they could have stolen my mail also, mostly could have been the kid that robbed me 1.5 yrs ago.as he is still here. and very mad. i never give my info out , this one just got me. police seem to think that box was aol already onto my act comprimized. i do not .. i feel i was dumb but there is that always well cold have been. but i will never know. nothing they can do at this point as they said . but thank you for the kind words, have a great day

My family was the victum of a neighbor's son. He'd befriended my youngest stepson, but ended up stealing him (and us) blind as well. He's now spending possibly the rest of his life in prison for another crime, but he ended up costing his own family as well. They had to walk away from their home this past month after refinancing it to cover his attorney fees and couldn't afford the new payments.

 

Hard to say how someone could've gotten to you're personal info. The kid you refer to may be just a coincidence, but I wouldn't rule it out at this point.
