From what I could tell by briefly looking over the configs, the only difference between the two 6000 models is the graphics. The one for $140X has integrated graphics while the one for $150X has 64MB DDR ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 PCI Express x16 Graphics, with an option to upgrade to 128MB for $69 more.

I'd recommend going with the $150X model and the better video, and the only upgrade I might recommend besides that would be the screen resolution ($125 for the WSXGA+) but that depends on your own viewing preference.

Other than that, both have 1.6GHz, 256MB RAM, 40GB HD, DVD Burner, WiFi, etc...

Explanation of a "concession coupon" for those out of the loop?

Concession coupon is a one time use coupon that isnt available to the public but just issued to a single person for X amount of dollars off. My coupon is $100 off $100.01 or more purchase from Dell home section of their website.

Thank you for the clarification.

Out of curiousity, are these concession type coupons stackable with public coupons?

Just some personal experience: I just recieved my orders from the last $750 off $1500 deal. I ordered a 700m and a 6000.

The 6000 seems to be a very solid computer. I ordered it with the 256mb of ram, and it is a little slow to boot up. I didn't want to do a complete reinstall of windows, so I went into msconfig and unchecked a bunch of startup items that didn't need to be there. It sure saved alot of time. Runs pretty well now. I already have more ram on the way, and I will end up with 512 in this machine.

I got the middle of the road resolution screen, and I think that I could spend long hours without hurting my eyes typing on the 6000. The widescreen makes it seem large for a 15". The 700m I believe would get a little tedious to work on for hours on end.

The design is nice and contemporary without being distracting. Its big compared to the 700m, so I dont know if I would want to lug it around with me on a daily basis (school, etc).

I plan on ordering a few more 6000s, as a few people I know were interested last time the deal was on. I am going to spend a few extra bucks this time to get 512megs of ram, because the price savings isn't enough to justify having to order and install ram from buy.com.

Just wanted to give my 2 cents!

I'm looking to get $70 via non-cc paypal. Checkup on ebay and you will find they average $75, but with me not having to pay ebay and paypal fees I can sell it for $70 to whoever wants it. PM me. (I have references)

My recommended system:

Get the Inspiron 6000 on the far right. Base price is $1403, so choose one of the following upgrades:

15.4 inch UltraSharp WSXGA+ LCD Panel [add $125]

9-cell Lithium Ion Battery (80 WHr) [add $99]

8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer write capability [add $100]

Order placed :)

$1403 base + $125 WSXGA upgrade

- $30 BigBucks coupon

- $750 off $1499 coupon

========================================

$748 with 0% Oregon sales tax and free shipping!

Free color printer, or pay $35 to upgrade to an all-in-one model.

I considered getting the all-in-one for discounted price of $35 to resell on eBay until I saw the prices. The market is flooded with those models. I can sell the cheap "free" printer locally for around $35.

Now I just have two upgrades left:

Sell 256MB RAM and buy 512MB from NewEgg, ZZF or Crucial.com

Maybe sell 6 cell battery and buy 9 cell battery

Well, look who decided to get out of bed! :greenappl

I couldn't get my bigbucks deal to stack for some reason. Oh well!

Glad you got in on it.
