super10brss
Optical zoom is the way to go. Digital zoom is goo too but optical is where it is at. Optical zoom gets out there and gives you a good picture from far off without degrading the quality of the photo. Digital zoom, zooms in but pixelates the picture hurting the quality and over all look of the photo. Most folks would only need 4x maybe 6x optical zoom for most photos. And anything over 7 or 8 megapixel is over kill. My brother-in-law bought a 7 mega pixel camera from curcuit city for under $100 and it is very nice. For 5x7 or even 6x8 7 to 8 mega pixel is fine. Just do your home work and you should be great. I am still working with a 2 mega pixel I bought from walmart a few years ago and it works ok for the most part. Good luck and I hope I have not mudded up the water too bad.
amyers12345
I wouldn't trade my Kodak for anything.. I must have gotten one of the better models. I know several people that have had trouble with theirs, but mine is awesome. It's a Z760. I would like something with better zoom also. Our Walmart is running some pretty good clearance deals right now. They have a Fuji 8 mp w/ 10x zoom on clearance for $138. I have debated it, just for the zoom. I am not sure how good or user friendly they are.

The pics come out nice and clear and you can buy extra lenses and filters for it (I got mine from Amazon) I need the extra Zoom for pictures from the stands to the football field of my kids. They are in the band.
amyers12345
is $138 a good price for it? It seems like it was only about $50 off. I love my Kodak because it's rechargable, and the batteries last forever. I just wish it had better zoom for sporting events.
Azzycat
I've been looking for a camera for over a year. I FINALLY bought one this weekend. I knew I wanted a Canon camera, and one that had good zoom. I bought the new SD 1100 last week from Best Buy, but really had qualms that the 3x zoom just wasn't going to cut it. So I never opened the box and continued my search. I need to take it back this week. I read TONS of technology forums and one of the top cameras that kept coming up was the Canon A720IS. It's got image stabilization, 8mp 6x zoom. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-a720-is/4505-6501_7-32471270.html Here's one company's opinion of the best cameras under $200. http://reviews.cnet.com/best-budget-cameras/?tag=lnav My Dad swears by his Sony cameras, but I WILL not buy a Sony because everything else in my house uses SD cards so I insisted our new camera takes SD cards. What I ended up buying was a Canon A650 that was on clearance at Costco. My budget was $250 but we went ahead and splurged and bought this one. It was $299 and came with a Canon printer. We didn't need the printer but I like Costco's 90 day return policy (with no restocking fee) so we can try this one out and see if it was worth splurging on. My new baby is coming any day, though, so I definately needed A working camera in the house, and we thought this was the best option for us :)
davephillyj
I got a Kodak EasyShare ZD710 . It has 10X optical zoom and then 5x for digital zoom. I have had 3 kodak easyshare cameras over the past 13 years. They are still all working fine, the first one I bought the screen no longer works now, but it is one I gave my niece 5 years ago. She still uses it and loves it! My other ones have been passed down to younger family members and are still going strong too. I didn't get the one I was watching as it was a refurb. I don't do refurbs. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=300211708895&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=020 That's the one I got. My aunt got it when it first came out and she loves it. I am going to get the wide angle lens to go with it when it gets here.
