laddhorn
Check surrounding stores also for clearanced ones. A month ago, I saw an 80 gal one for $100. Unfortunately, it didn't fit my house...
conj
I replaced mine a few months ago... I did a lot of comparison shopping, and ended up getting one from the local plumbing supply shop... the cost was comparable to Home Depot and Sears (no lowes near me) and the warranty was phenomenal in comparison. Might be worth it to expand your search. This is one of those items that I feel the investment is worth it because: It should last a LONG time I can't fix it myself if it breaks We can't live without one (for a few days if there was a problem...) It can make a He!! of a mess if there is a problem

Marcster
I bought one from Sears last year for our house. It was $478 installed. I even have a thread about it: http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=64356 All the other basements in my neighborhood are jealous: http://i16.tinypic.com/2wns32a.jpg
akdillard
Also, check with your local power company. I know that the power company around here has a H20 Advantage Program. They give you a rebate on your hot waterheater, normally 200-300 dollars!
AndreaInNC
Also check your local Entertainment coupon book. Our local one has HD coupons in it.
