wyntyrose Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I woke up this morning to find my cats had chewed the cords of the Christmas tree. So with 4 days to go, company coming on Saturday and major family issues I have to get a new tree. I am so wanting to fast forward a few months or break out the egg nog early.
teebee Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Oh no, that's terrible. It will work out or, just get the eggnog out like you said and don't worry! LOL
No1Slacker Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I love cats.............most of the time.
leefamily23 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I am so sorry--- I hope you find a beautiful new tree.

So with 4 days to go, company coming on Saturday and major family issues I have to get a new tree. I am so wanting to fast forward a few months or break out the egg nog early.I am so sorry about your tree. No possibilty of splicing cords or fixing it somehow?? If you were closer I would come help you redecorate your tree. DH does not want thehouse decorated because he does not do Christmas and I miss getting to do one. That is why I am going to my mom's house tonight through the day after Christmas. I'll get to enjoy her decorations.
wyntyrose Posted December 20, 2007 Author Posted December 20, 2007 On the upside it was a white tree with multi color lights that i did not like. So maybe I can find a good deal on a green tree. I really thought that it would be the ferrets tearing up the tree, thankfully the tree was unplugged otherwise it would have been a Christmas Vacation moment this morning.
shopping mom Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 My mom got a prelit one form JC Pennys this year and it is really pretty. Hope you not only find a pretty tree but one that is on sale too. Some said that Target has trees on clearance.

onecutemoocow Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I just got a kitten 2 weeks ago and she has really been testing me when it comes to the christmas tree. I know how you feel. I am soooooooooo ready to take the tree down before she knocks it over.
bayhaysay Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I'm sorry, but did anyone else get a flashback of the cat in Christmas Vacation?? Or was it just me?? Be honest??Yes, I did. To the OP...just leave the egg out of the nog and try not to worry about it, then go chop down the nearest tree.
Promom Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 So sorry to hear about your tree. Just remember it's not the tree, the presents or the food that make Christmas is you and what you do with the season. I have atree right by my computer that's my "Angel" tree, started it the year my mom went into a nursing home and every year I add another angel. No one else in the family cares about the tree but me. Anyway after I had gotten the house decorated, the family tree done, helped with the two kids trees and finally done my "Angel" tree and sat down to get on the computer I noticed the top part of the lights were out, just the top. Then they came back on, so I sit watching half the lights go on, then off, on, then off. At first I was pissed, then I just remember to "pick my battles" and made a mental note to throw out the lights and get new ones next year>!!!!!!:holiday16:holiday16
ang625 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 im sorry your cat "did in" your tree....... im laughing so hard though! i just wonder what goes through their minds as they are distroying our things LOL.... our kitty (fluffina) was 'head bobbing' at our tree when i first put it up this year...so i had to use the water method....i get a squirt gun with cold water and she gets it when she got near the tree....broke her from going any nearer than 10 steps away :):)
lindabacker Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Why not just buy some strings of lights and put on it if you cant find a new tree you like or if you decide not to go to the expense right now?
Shortness Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 On the upside it was a white tree with multi color lights that i did not like. So maybe I can find a good deal on a green tree. I really thought that it would be the ferrets tearing up the tree, thankfully the tree was unplugged otherwise it would have been a Christmas Vacation moment this morning. I hope you can find something you really like with a good price. You would think prices would start going down the closer we get. So sorry. Animal issues seem to be on the rise right now. I hope your holidays turn out well despite what's happening now.
jdrd90 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I'm sorry, but did anyone else get a flashback of the cat in Christmas Vacation?? Or was it just me?? Be honest?? What's that smell?...............Fried pussycat!!!!!

wyntyrose Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 fried pussycat, now that makes me laugh.
tjredsox4 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I just got a kitten 2 weeks ago and she has really been testing me when it comes to the christmas tree. I know how you feel. I am soooooooooo ready to take the tree down before she knocks it over. When we had a cat we had to tie the tree to something so the cat didn't knock it over. My dad usually tied it to the curtain hooks or a nail above the windows. Maybe you could do something like this. HTH
koala808 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Don't feel bad. Our kitten and puppy have had a field day with my tree this year. Might as well let them finish destroying it and get a new one after Christmas. Times like this I wish I hated animals.

At first I was pissed, then I just remember to "pick my battles" and made a mental note to throw out the lights and get new ones next year>!!!!!!:holiday16:holiday16 You know, our tree is doing the same thing! I've been battling with Sylvania (the company who made it) about it for several weeks now. When we first bought the original tree this year, the bottom half blinked crazy like there was a short in the wire. Yes, there were random twinkling lights, but this really was as though there were something wrong. Returned the tree, got another - same kind, it did the same thing in the same section. They sent us a replacement for that section and it's been fine.....until a few nights ago. Now it's a different section with the same problem. It's been driving me CRAZY...but reading your post made me smile and realize it's not worth getting so upset about. (but I will be calling them again b/c it's a brand new $$ tree) Thank you for your post!
jennsahm Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 We have an older cat and a new kitten. We knew the tree would be a target for the kitten and it was. What I did was use a small squirt bottle with water in it. I didn't douse the cat or anything...just a very small squirt on his paw whenever he got near it. I tried to do it in such a way that he could not see the squirt bottle and it has worked. The cat steers a mile away from the tree. He thinks it's the tree getting him wet Only took 3 or 4 times for him to get the hint that tree = wet paw! He hasn't touched a needle on it
Princess7915 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 We have a new kitten too - the seem to be popular! As crazy as that baby is I was SURE she would be all over my tree because she is all over everything else in my house. But except for the night that I put the ornaments on she has been so good! She hasn't touched it! She is so cute because she likes to curl up between the packages and take her little naps. I was just so certain I would come home to find her as my new tree topper on many occasions! But I love hearing about everyone else's baby kitty tales - you just have to smile because they won't be so cute and snuggly forever.
Scanner420 Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Yes, I did. To the OP...just leave the egg out of the nog and try not to worry about it, then go chop down the nearest tree. And don't forget the Tylenol.
lisamag Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I'm sorry, but did anyone else get a flashback of the cat in Christmas Vacation?? Or was it just me?? Be honest??lol i sure did. i've been looking at christmas trees, and k-mart has some nice one s on sale when i was looking last week 50% off on some of them and that was just online. i hope you can get something nice. my rabbit did the same thing 2 yrs ago, so i know what you mean. lucky it was just after christmas.
wyntyrose Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 well I got my soon to be ex-dh to splice the wires back together. so the tree is good this year I will pick one up next week at the exchange when they are 75 percent off. And after the last few weeks the egg is being left out of the nog tonight.
mom2monkiesx3 Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 LOL at the eggnog !!! Poor kitties! I just had to share what my wonderful "baby" did. I baked 60 mini cupcakes for my 3 kids Christmas parties Thursday. My big fat Himalayan cat SAT on top of the bakery box and squished them! I had to bake them AGAIN. Kitty spent the night outside after that;)
