nikkilugi Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 We had to call the cops over yesterday because our Christmas decorations were vandalized now for the 2nd time in about a week. The first time they just messed around with my plastic toy soldiers and threw one across my yard. Well on Friday they decided to stomp both of my white metal deer and actually untied and stole one of my plastic NOEL candles. They left everything else along except for those random decorations. They did about $30 in damage. I didn't file a report but I did ask the cops to request an extra patrol in our neighborhood. My dh got up 3 times last night to check our yard. I told him that I didn't think any kids would come last night because we are in a winter/ice storm. He told me this morning he even dreamed about my decorations, LOL. It is just awful that kids feel the need to destroy property to have a good time. Why can't they just do something constructive instead of destructive? I don't think I will buy new deer this year unless I find a real good deal on some.
lisamag Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 thats terrible. some kids just aren't taught to respect other people property. i had a problem with people letting their dogs leave a mess on my sidewalk. then i put one of those stickers that says there a video camera on the premises and it stopped. if you have a camera put it in the window try and catch them or try putting a sign up saying that a video camera is up and you will catch who ever messes with your decor. good luck and i hope it stops.
alimfp Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 It's happening here as well.. which it does every year. I swear, some people don't have anything better to do or so they think. :/
First Lady Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 We just put up an inflatable decoration...I'm waiting to see how long it lasts. Darn kids always ruin the fun!
sunni0913 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 we had 2 4' inflatables and a 8' inflatable nutcracker stolen last year. It killed my Christmas spirit so much I didn't put anything outside this year. Sad thing is the cops didn't seem to care and it wasn't just decorations they were taking. We had our car broken into around the same time last year.
teebee Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 That is terrible that these kids get a kick out of this. If they try again, I certainly hope you catch them.
leefamily23 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Last year a group of kids went through a decapitated all the white wire, lighted deer in the front yards. It was really sad.
nikkilugi Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 Well I set one of my deer back up. My dh was surprised I could get it back together. We will see if it lights up tonight when my timer kicks on. The doe had to be put in the trash My dh got it at Dollar General for me for $10 so I told him when he goes in to work he can check and see if they have another. I am going to go ahead and put another up. The lady across the street from me put up 5 or so inflatables in her yard yesterday and today. We will see what happens there. My dh thinks it might be this kid that got caught after breaking out the back window of our older Jimmy last summer. He got caught by the cops and was ordered to pay restitution to us. In total he had to pay $900 (that was the quote we got from a popular body shop in town). He also had to go through some "program" and when completed the charge was wiped off his record if I agreed. I did but right after his last payment to us we started having some minor problems. A concrete lion disappeared from our porch. Now these incidents of broken and missing decorations. We are going to have some bad weather the next few days but after that I will put my dh on alert - especially on Friday and Saturday nights. He is a security person and has talked about putting up a camera. I hope we can catch whoever is doing this.
jazzy442 Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Last year someone slit my 8 foot inflatable snowman. I was actually awake when they did it and had no idea until I was going to bed and looked outside at like 1am. I was ticked but not as bad as I would have been if I hadn`t gotten it the year before for $5 on clearance. I think it was a boy that went to school with with my stepdaughter that turned into a bigger smart@$$ when my husband asked him about his manners since he would get rude when he called here for her. LOL. My neighbor said he was ready to sit up at night with his bb gun and wait and see someone going in my yard again. LOL. I try to turn my stuff off kind of early this year so it doesn`t attract as much attention in the middle of the night since you can see my house pretty good from the busier(sp?) street a few houses down.
lisamag Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 i don't know if your still thinking about replacing them but heres alink you might want to check out. http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=94010
Scanner420 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 It sucks that you can't put something out to celebrate the holiday w/o someone destroying your fun! I put up the gutter lights and the garland on the porch railings, but not much else since the youth of today can't keep their hands to themselves.
Princess7915 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I'd put up a video camera so you could see who is damaging your property. If anything you would know who it is and be able to send to cops down to talk to their parents-obviously it's kids causing trouble.
nikkilugi Posted December 14, 2007 Author Posted December 14, 2007 Well the lady across the street has some mighty inviting airblowns, LOL. Maybe the kids will leave my yard alone now that she has put up a plethora of decorations. I have to say - her yard blows mine away even though I had mine done weeks before her. She smoked me this year. My dh hates it because when I lose at decorating the spending on the after Christmas clearance gets higher, LOL.
dmmiller Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 We had a neighbor have a few of his decoration stolen in the past few years. I agree it sux that these kids cant leave someone else's stuff alone. Too bad you couldnt get a motion detector and hook it up to music.. REALLY LOUD MUSIC. And then when they walk by it, it blares it out and scares the begebees out of them. LOL

We do have a motion detector light up but that didn`t make any difference. It goes off just about every time the wind blows so I don`t check it often. That would be hilarious though with the music. I just don`t leave mine on very late now.
guilliam Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 My mom had this problem a few years ago. She had a plastic snowman and about once a week, someone would cut the cord on it and dad would splice it back together. Until they finally just stole it. We knew the neighbor kids where responsible, but couldn't prove it. Funny, they moved away and it never happened again....hummm
