smallwood Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Stopped in my local Target this morning - found they had the Wii Essential Starter Kit on sale through Saturday for $29, regularly $49. I think it's a good buy - here's what's included; Component Cable2 Rechargeable Battery PacksSoft-Sided Sports Kit which includes; Baseball BatTennis RacketGolf ClubRacing WheelWireless Sensor BarStraps & SkinsBox claims 5 year warranty. The component cable and battery packs/charger are worth the $29 in itself.
smallwood Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 The sensor bar that comes with the Wii is wired - it plugs into the back. It basically has two InfraRed emitters, that are used by some of the handheld Wii controls for calibration (determining x & y axis) - example is Link's crossbow. You're stuck playing within about 9 feet of your Wii with the wired sensor bar. The wireless sensor bar uses batteries, thus it can be placed wherever it's more convenient for you. So you're not limited to playing within 9' of your Wii. The sensor bar is a transmitter - it sends nothing back to the Wii. Hope that help!
smallwood Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 I couldn't find a product image online, I'll try to get some time to take a pic of the box shortly.
Christy Garner Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I bought one last weekend at Target and yes, it is an awesome deal.

amyandkids Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 That is a great deal, I will have to let my sister know since she got a Wii for my niece.
harketchic Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 O.k I got my kids a wii for xmas... can anyone tell me about the battery chargers??? I was going to buy that docking station to recharge, but do theses just plug in to the wii and the wall???? If so, it looks like I will be taking back the sports pack and wheel I got at CC:-) Thanks..
Braque Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 It appears that the rechargable battery packs may have to be removed from the wii-mote to charge and conbnect to the Wii USB port. I had heard that this is not as desirable as plugging a charger into a wall and takes longer - plus it's a little messier than a tabletop charging stand. Doesn't the Wii console come with cable connections - why is the component cable needed? Do the sports accessories even work? I had read a few bad reviews. The wireless sensor bar sounds good - I'm just not sure that this stuff is the best route to go.

Not the fancy "upright docking station", but most of us don't need fancy : D

If you have a basic TV, it's fine. If you have a HDTV, you'll want the component cable for a much, much better picture (after all, that's the whole purpose of an HDTV, isn't it? ) The sports accessories just "snap over" your Wii remote, to give it a more realistic "feel" of a baseball bat, tennis racquet, etc. For driving games, the wheel is almost a necessity. Since they're just fancy handles for your control, I'm not sure how these sports accessories CAN'T work....
maritza68 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Wow purchased this on BF on regular price going to get a PA. Thanks
Braque Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Thanks, Smallwood. I bought one. It appears that the batteries do not plug into a wall socket but into the Wii console via USB. The USB plug has two jacks on the other end to charge two wii-motes at the same time. However, the wireless sensor bar must also use the same charging plug, when needing to be charged. Still a good deal.

I thought the edit was saved, but it obviously didn't. My apologies. It's been corrected now.

debbieshops2003 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Thank you!!!!! I just bought two of them. I had NO idea what they were when I saw them. And didn't really pay attention, because the sign wasn't up at my Target when I saw them. If there was a sale sign I would have investigated a little further. THANK YOU so much for the information!!!!!!
Promom Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Unfortunately here in Va, our Target's don't have the essential starter kit. But I was wondering I keep seeing a cooling fan. Do you need one with the Wii?
rmol66 Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Thank You very much! They had 3 at our store and I picked up 2 one for myself and one for a friend, it will make a great addition to the Wii! The kids are going to be thrilled, thanks again!
elite2058 Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Went to the Target near my house and they didn't have this, but called Mom and she found 2 at her Target today. I will need this Christmas am to hook up to new plasma. Thank You
mgmckny Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Just got back from Target and picked one up-- had not even noticed this in the ad! I'm thrilled as one of ds 10's complaints has been the sensor bar!
nat1jen Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 They were out at my Target, but the clerk gave me a raincheck to get one for $24.99. Now I have to hope that they will get more by Christmas.

Now I have to hope that they will get more by Christmas. Our's was also sold out and I asked about a raincheck and I was told that they don't do them. I just called my store and asked the front desk and I should have been given a raincheck because they do for items that are on sale. I am so glad that I read this just now or we would have missed out on that price.
jmm1014 Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 ok, guys I NEED one of these (can you sense the desperation in my voice???) MY DS would kill for this set. We have been Wii-ing for the past year and loving it. this would be the icing on the cake! Anyone see it out in Arizona????
sfanselmo Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 IN ARIZONA!!! The Target on 27th Avenue and 101 had three (I bought 1). Not sure where you live in AZ but I found it there. Beware though, I did go to a Target on 7th St. and Bell and the moron had not a clue what I was even talking about.
mom2twoblessings Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 This wasn't in my ad this week. I went to Target and they didn't know what I was talking about. They had a charging dock in the ad for 29 and that was it.

smallwood Posted December 3, 2007 Author Posted December 3, 2007 This was originally unadvertised, was just something I happened to run across. Sale ended Saturday the 1st.
mom2twoblessings Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Oh well....they didn't ever have any in stock at my Target.
