bazootch Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 BB has this Western Digital 500Gb external hard drive. It is not tagged as a door buster. Question #1. Can I buy this online at bestbuy.com, and when? Question #2. If this can only be had at the store, will it be flying off the shelves? I know it is hard to say for sure, but I do appreciate your opinions. http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/black-friday-2461-WesternDigitalMyBook500GBExternalUSB20HardDrive.html
shanni Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I'm not sure about getting it online, but with only 15 being available in the store I would guess they will be gone very quickly.
The End Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I bought an internal Hard Drive at Best Buy last year, so I guess I have a little of experience in this matter. Although, I have no idea if an external hard drive will be a hotter item than an internal. In any event, here’s my advice regarding your chances buying it in-store. Last year I asked a similar question on this board and I was told that by and large, computer upgrade items tend to be overlooked by the first wave of BF shoppers. Most early arrivers will be looking to get a cheep TV, Laptop or MP3 player. I had asked if I needed to get in line at midnight or so to get the HD (as well as a new DVD-RW drive and a video card) and everyone agreed that I could just sashay into Best Buy around 9AM and still get what I wanted. They where right. It was also suggested that I call my Best Buy on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to ask how many of the items that I wanted that they had in stock. I can’t remember everything that I had on my list, but I do recall they said that they had a minimum of 10 Hard drives, but when I called, it turned out that they had 83 of them in stock. Also, I wanted an MP3 player that they had as a doorbuster and the ad said they had 40 silver and 20 pink. Tuned out that between the two colors, they had over 750 of them in stock. So even though it says they’ll have a minimum of a certain amount in stock, there will likely be a good deal more than the number listed. The key word is Minimum.
bpr Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Yeah, minimum is it. I've seen the ad say 10 laptops minimum and have 30(The people further down the line were excited). But I would think a lot of the 'geeks'(like myself) would snatch those 500GBs quickly at that price.
chimeralife Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I got the external hard drive last year. They were gone within half an hour after opening. People were so excited they were grabbing the wrong one and being disappointed at the register.
bazootch Posted November 13, 2007 Author Posted November 13, 2007 Since it is on sale for 2 days, I think I will get online early and see if I can get one. If not, I am betting there will be a deal close to that before Christmas. I am hoping, anyway.
H_Hancock Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I agree with chimeralife. Both the internal and external hard drives were gone before about 30 min. had passed last year. While we were in line to checkout....I went back to look for one of the WD externals......and the shelves were completely bare. That was at around a half-hour after the doors opened. As for people looking for the doorbuster TV, laptops and other computers....don't know how other BB's work, but the one we frequent every year for BB has you check out at the customer service desk if you have a ticketed item to purchase. Then, after paying, you either receive the computer right there at the desk, or in the case of TVs and other larger items, you'd drive to the rear of the store and they'd load it into your vehicle. There was no running around trying to find the doorbuster electronics like computers and TVs....they weren't on the floor anyway.
