6digmans Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Oh my gosh my son wants to join me now on BF! He is 11 years old and thinks its going to be the best ever:eyepoppin This is how it started ( first let me say is has NEVER been a shopper) , I went to our Farm and Fleet for ToyLand to open this weekend. He said," oh come on I really want to go!!" I agreed figuring he would want to never shop again:smart: . WRONG we were outside for 30 minutes waiting for the doors to open. He had his basebal cap, sweatshirt, and his Ipod in hand ready to stand out there. we recieved hand warmers from the store while we waited. Then he was really loving that:smirk: . he saw how long the line was behind us and said, THIS IS AWESOME! . I warned him as we got in to watch out he does not get run over. He is very lucky he can sneek by where adults can not. He came in very handy for me;) . I had what I wanted in a short amount of time but he wanted to walk around and be in the crowd of people so I stood on the side talking to someone I knew while he had fun with it. we finished paying, left and hopped in the car. I said , now just so you know BF is probably 9-10Xs more crazy. He said, REALLY???? THAT IS EVEN BETTER!!!!!!!!!! He said I have to go with you that is going to be sooooo much fun. I told him ya well me and Crystal and Sara are going . Perfect he said, US 4 wil have a blast!! DH is having a fit and wanted to know what is wrong with him!!??? He did not ask me to get him a single thing he just loved the feeling of the crowd and the shopping experience we all have here.
conj Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Yup, my DD has come BF shopping with me, very helpful, as she was small enough to go through crowds, and hey - I have to stay with my kid :)
racerfan Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I am in the same boat. My DS who will be 12 in December wants to come with me also. I informed him about it being cold, and the long lines, but he does not care. He keeps saying that he can help, by standing on lines while I get stuff etc. I have tried to say that maybe when he is 14 or 15, but no he insists on going with me this year.
6digmans Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 Oh my gosh that is sooo strange that he wants to go. Do you think its the same thing - they like the thrill of the crowd and the challenge of trying to get things and the feeling of the season ?? It really took me by surprise I would of thought that he went with and said, NEVER again. I think he will have to have a walkie Talkie in case we lose him
racerfan Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I think so. He hears me talking about the fun my Sister and I have, so he wants to be part of it. I am just worried about losing him. He and I are similar in size, another year or so and he wil be taller than I am but still, he is my baby and I don't want anything to happen to him. Plus I feel I will be worrying about him and not concentrating on getting everything I want. IF he is there, then I cannot get stuff for him without him know about it too:tongue1: He has promised me that he will keep the Santa surprise going longer for his younger sister, but I still would like to get things for him without him knowing about it. I don't know yet if we are going to allow him to come with us. A walkie Talkie is a good idea and we do have them in the house (previous BF sale).
dmmiller Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 MY DS12 is buggin the heck outta me to take him with me. But I'm afraid he'd just slow me down LOL Gonna have to take a few years to think about that :)
Illinoismom Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 my 9 year old went last year and she loved it, she can not wait to hit the stores again this year.
shopping mom Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I would say let him come and enjoy it!! He may end up being the best shopping buddy you have in the years to come. I have taken my DD19 since she was 13 or 14 and she loves it. DS23 went for the first time last year and he asked off for BF this year. You can still buy for him with him there just be creative and if you use a cart have something to cover things up with and rule number one don't let him ask "Who is that for?"
guilliam Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I sometimes wish I had a dd that I could take shopping. But I have 2 ds's and they both HATE to shop. (Although I think ds17 really likes sales like bf and just complains anyway:)
ajdana726 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 i took my 14 ds last year , he begged me to bring him, i didnt care because i wasn't there for anything for him,. Well lets just say he will never do that again, he hated it, it was cold and rainy. and all he did was complain take me home. so he wont be going this year
Bunniq Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 (Although I think ds17 really likes sales like bf and just complains anyway:)Last year was the first BF for my baby sister, and she complained the whole time lol, but then after we got home she was asking about the next BF! It is all she talks about most days. She will have more money to spend this year.

When we took her home that night, she told her husband, "Remember that movie Jingle All The Way? I was in that today!!" Now, she loves it!
6digmans Posted October 23, 2007 Author Posted October 23, 2007 I think if there is anything I want for him I will have my friends buy it and then I will pay them for it. He will never know if I am putting them up to it or not. If he asks I wil just lie, I can usually lie about something like this to them with out laughing.
KrisinTn Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 My son started going with me when he was 12. (his father was deployed over seas) He really did come in handy... lol. We carried walkie talkies so we were constantly in touch, the only problem came in sneaking those bf bargains that were for him by him, but luckily he was smart enough to go on to the car once I told him I was getting in a line,as we were the only two in our group. His father will be home this year but he has already told me he still wants to go... He's wanting to do "his own" shopping this year. :)
jarerice Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Thats great! I can't wait for mine to get old enough to come with us!!!!!

Her best friend would get my gifts and my mother would get her son's gifts. So I still had surprises and the chance to shop with my mommy! (Yes I still call her mommy.)
