johjstc Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 What stores have layaway besides Kmart? I would like to put a LCD flatscreen on layaway but do not know of any stores besides Kmart.
sunni0913 Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 there is a website called lay-away.com . It works the same way as Kmart they just find it online, you pay payments, and then you get your merchandise when it is paid off. You might want to try them. Hope this helps.
kc4braves Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Hi, I'm new to the forum. I'm trying to figure out how to get what the kids want for Christmas this year without going under. I wanted to use layaway because we are trying to improve our credit scores to buy a home and don't want our balances to jump. I didn't realize Wal-MArt had done away with layaways and hardley anyone has it anymore. Would have been great for this year. We are primarily looking to purchase 2 nintendo DS lites and games and a Wii with at least 1 additonal game and controller. These are the big items that I need to get on sale or need to spread out. Does anyone think either of these items may come down for BF? I hate to wait to buy them and then find out they aren't discounted or they aren't available. We do have a Kmart about 45 mins from here. I might could put one on layaway there if they carry them. Oh, and we have BX priveleges as my husband is retired AF. I'm not sure if they carry the Wii or DS or for how long something can be on layaway. Maybe they would price match BF sales if the Wii comes down. Not sure where to start. Have never admatched but am willing to try it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Kandy Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 You MIGHT find the DS on sale but likely to be the SP again. EB Games/Game Stop offers 10% off used games if you join their membership and you get a magazine subscription for a year. I would say look for the Wii, game, controller etc now. Buy pieces as you can. You may need the controller and the nunchuck (sold separte from the controller). Right now our walmart has some things on clearance for the Wii like skins, wii Fi adapter etc.
wyntyrose Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I believe the BX/PX has 90 day layaway. Ours is not having layaway this year due to reconstruction. With Walmart not doing it I am using Kmart, a little more expensive but layaway is a lifesaver with three kids and tons of siblings.
shopping mom Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 kc4braves, If you think you can find a good deal on these items now you may want to go ahead and purchase them. Make sure you check the return policy just incase you find a better deal later and save your receipts. Some stores like Sears will give you the difference plus 10 % if you buy it from them and find it cheaper somewhere else within a specified time period. I doubt the Wii will come down, they are still hard to find in our area. I have been trying to help my cousin find one for her son and there have been none in B&M stores. Hopefully she got the one from CC online today.
kc4braves Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Thanks for the ideas. Our Target has several Wii's right now, just wasn't sure if I should buy now or if there was a way to get a better deal. I need to see if the base has them, I guess. At least thre would be no tax that way. Would be great if they had it and I could layaway it. Guess I need to check it out this weekend. I didn't know that about Sears. That is good info. How much does Kmart charge to do a layway? I really miss Kmart. THanks.
nick_jenni_jocelyn Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I also agree that if you see a WII i would pick it up now. my local WM had 6 as of last saturday and now they have none. I am definitely going to pick one up next time i see it since its my DH's xmas gift.
theboyzmom Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 if you have it near you, Meijer still has layaway too
ms_mckenna Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Another that has layaway is Academy. Great for us because my DD is a snoop and loves all their Longhorn stuff!
kc4braves Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 That is great to know. I don't know if my kids want anything from Academy this year but hubby might. He's so hard to surprise.
kimber6337 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Wii is already going quick...dh had to almost fight a guy at circuit city to get the last one this weekend. Its stashed safely =))
Gumball Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 if you have it near you, Meijer still has layaway tooI don't know where you're located but the Meijer store here in Anderson got rid of their layaway when they did their major remodleing last year.
jarerice Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Does Sears have a LayAway? thanks for the LayAway link!!!!
Gumball Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Does Sears have a LayAway? thanks for the LayAway link!!!!Nope, never seen one there either. Kmart is pretty much the last one around to have a lay-away left.
jellybean051901 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 The only place we have left close is KMart
sherril Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 our Value City Dept store has layaway still I dont know if you have one near you. I am going to put a layaway on at Kmart eventhough I cant stand it there and the staffing is horrible I also need to buy things and with a new baby I wont have the cash.
peifgirl Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 right now kmart is having a special..you only need to put a $1 down to start your layaway...no $15 fee right now......just a thought, i threw some stuff on there that i pretty much knew wouldn't be on sale for BF
cherry33778 Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Well I know some mall stores still have them (but I'm not sure), like Rave (aka Lola), Shalimar's, etc, but most major stores have discontinued the service which is a shame since that was the only way I would have a Christmas as a kid. I would suggest that next year start a Christmas Club savings at your job or credit union. That way you can take 10 or 20 dollars out of your paycheck every week and have $520-$1040 available to spend on Nov. 1. Just a suggestion. This year I'm using CC and paying them off with my bonus. Good luck!
erica5 Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Yeah, it's really annoying that they did away with the layaway. That way they can get you into debt easier with a credit card. It's amazing how most retailers have moved away form what customers want and need and only care about making even more money.
kc4braves Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Another that has layaway is Academy. Great for us because my DD is a snoop and loves all their Longhorn stuff! My husband and I went to our Academy here in OKC to put some things on layaway for my son. Guess what? They infomred us that they ended their layaway permenently in OCtober of this year. Bummer!
