guilliam
We are trying to decide if we should get this for our 2 boys as a joint gift for their b-days age will be 17 and 5 on b-days. My question is, what extras do you need to buy other than what comes in the box (and games of course) for both of them to be able to play? There seems to be a lot of stuff out there and I'm not sure what you NEED as opposed to wants. Seems like it might get expensive Already have the PS3 (which the older one LOVES) and don't want to spend that amount again! THANKS!
jbdinos
I would say an extra controller and you should be all set. We love our Wii from adult down to our 7 year old son. When you get the extra controller they are about 40.00.... or you can get Wii Play which is a disc with 8 or 9 more games plus the extra controller for 50.00.... worth it I say even though the games aren't as good as the ones that come with it. zooskoo
I would recommend the Wii Play with the extra controller. You can find cheaper at Sam's Club. This is enough to keep you entertained for some time! The whole family loves ours!
scrabbler
We bought the Wii for my dd for her 13th. Just the Wii. A month or so later, ds 15 and his sis, dd13 gathered their money and bought Wii play. Extra controller and games and they are happy. At some point my dd would love Mario Party 8. She loves those sorts of games...
KBsDarling
we have wii play wii sports(duh) and thats it everything else we just rent but adult to 6 plays those two disc so much that we go weeks without renting a game LOL i would highly suggest having as many controllers as people in the house we have 3 people and we have 3 controllers LOL also however many controllers you get have a numchuck for each the only thing we do not have 3 of is the old style controlller we bought 1 and have yet to use it but we dont download games from the wii shop so we dont use wii points either the memory cards are just sd cards so you can get cheaper ones in the photo dept then the one they are hawking right with the wii a friend of ours talked us into a wii and i will tell you it is easily the best buy we have made in a long time. Yes i know its "video games" but i would say 2-3 times a week we have bowling tournaments or other goofy things as a group and its to the point that grandparents are calling to know when the next night is :)

brynnfromtheblock
How do you like Chicken Shoot? We have 3 girls 2, 4, and 7, and only have Wii Sport and Wii Play... some of the games they can play, some they can't but they love it... I'm looking for other games you don't have to use many buttons for... (Like they love the shooting game, the fishing game and the cow racing game) I was looking on line and Carnival Games looked like something they might be able to do a few of... does anyone have it? Also thinking of preordering High School Musical Sing It and putting it away for DD7 for Christmas.. anyone heard anything about it?
guilliam
We like Chicken Shoot but ds4 thinks it is too noisy (he has tubes in ears and sensitive to sound) So we only play it when he is in another room. Very simple to play.

pleasant
We bought our DS and DD a Wii last month for their joint b/day gift. I have 5 kids (although my twins are only 2 so they don't play it) and all I bought extra was the extra nunchuck and extra remote (I bought the WiiPlay). We rent games from Blockbuster. Besides, we've rented a game that wasn't much fun so I'm glad we didn't go out and spend $50 on it.
jadedmomof2
Get either the charging bases for the Remotes, or buy rechargeable batteries. Check around for the rentals, only one store in my area has a decent variety of Wii games, our Blockbuster had 10 games available to rent, that's it. If you plan on mostly renting, consider a subscription to gameznflix or gamefly.
jndperry
We just got a Wii bundle at Costco last weekend, and it was nice that it came with an extra controller and Mario Party 8. Now, I'd really like to get a charger for the controllers and possibly skins, so we can tell which one is which. My son who is 3 gets so excited when we drop big brother and big sis at school, because he says, "Now I can play Wii?" He loves Mario Party, although I do have to sit with him and help him play. tjarena
I am planing on getting a Wii for Christmas. Do you think there will be better deals on black Friday? Or should I get it soon in case they sell out? Can anyone list the games in your experience that are worth buying? Where is a good place to buy them cheaper? Thanks for the info. I don't have a lot of money to waste on games that are not good!
nikkilugi
If you haven't bought the Wii yet I would recommend getting that now. I have heard that nintendo is trying to ramp up production but they still anticipate a shortage this Christmas as well.

I don't have a lot of money to waste on games that are not good! They are still hard to find in some area's by the holidays I think there will be a shortage again. I highly doubt we see Wii BF deals. Games yeah maybe but not the system. I would pick one up before BF because if you wait for the crazy part of the shopping season to start you may not be able to find one
biomajor
target had them yesterday
nikkilugi
I have actually seen them pretty often recently. I went to Target two different days and they had 2 one time (my kids were crying because I told them we couldn't afford it - they don't know I already have one hidden for Christmas). They had about 4 on Saturday while I was there. I have seen the selling price go down on ebay so maybe the resellers aren't buying as many and that is why I am seeing more now. I snatched the one I saw at Walmart a month ago because that is the first one I have seen on the shelf around here since they have come out. Granted I wasn't on a mission to find one but I would always walk by the game department at both Target and Wal-Mart to check each time I was there. aerosmithgirl
YAY!!! I finally found one today. The guy in electronics said you probably won't be able to find them at Christmas and if you did, everyone would be fighting over them. I just happened to call and my Target had 2 today. So, i took my lunch break early and drove really fast to get there since they can't hold them. Hopefully there will be some good deals on games at least. I know my DD will want the High School Musical game. Anyway, just had to share my happiness.
Jennifer0530
I have a question: Why is the Walmart bundle more expensive then if I would buy each item seperatly from Circuit City?
rrkaren
OK, I have a question. I am thinking of getting the Wii for me to use as a type of exercise equipment as well as for fun, since I really hate the typical exercising. Has anyone else done this and which games and equipment would you recommend? Thanks, Karen

rrkaren
Thanks for the info. It looks like the sports games even comes with the console. Now I just have to try and win one! I checked at some stores and they still only get 1 or 2 every couple weeks. You would think they would have plenty in the stores by now!!

KBsDarling
They are coming out with a board that will have yoga and other full body games to add to it if you are looking for exercise. If you want one for Christmas I would highly suggest getting it NOW. If you look at the upcoming wave of games they are releasing it is gonna restart the OMG I HAVE TO FIND ONE craze I think
civicracinggirl7
You'll need at least one extra controller and nunchuk, but I'd advise getting all 4 controllers (it comes with one, so you'd need to get 3 more). You could get away with only 2 nunchuks for now with all 4 remotes since there isn't all that much (if anything) that you can use 4 nunchuks for right now. As far as games, this is what I have ATM: - Wii Sports -- both will enjoy it, and you'll most likely enjoy it as well (reason for getting all 4 controllers, lol, because you'll most likely want to play along) - Wii Play -- really only played it once, but purchased it for the extra controller since it was impossible to get just the controllers back then - Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam -- it's a lot different than most TH titles, but fun regardless and both may enjoy it - Zelda -- your older son will probably enjoy it more, but from how much I've played so far your younger son shouldn't have much trouble with the gameplay itself - Super Paper Mario -- older son may enjoy, younger son may be able to play but there is a lot of reading involved so he may not be interested in it - Mario Party 8 -- older son may enjoy it but may get bored of it faster, younger son should enjoy - Wario Ware Smooth Moves -- both should enjoy, and it's a riot to watch others play - Big Brain Academy -- both should be able to enjoy - Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz - should be enjoyable to both As for BF deals, don't count on it. The system will have only been out for a year by BF, and it's still not on store shelves (at least around here). If you find one, or live in an area where it is on shelves, then I'd also advise picking it up now. I know it'll be on a lot of holiday wish lists this year, so another shortage (or continuation of the shortage) is to be expected.
