mark_12345 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 All, Need your help... my wife and I are looking to get a 50" plasma and we have narrowed down our choices to the Toshiba 50" (50HP66) or the Costco Philips 50" (50PF9431D). The Toshiba is $1,700 (if we make it to the early bird special) and the Philips is $2,000. Which is the better buy in terms of quality and features? BB is always packed so I'm not sure what my chances are getting the Toshiba. - Mark
ZeeMek Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 The Phillips, if you read the specs on the toshiba it is 16 inches deep. It is huge!
serranop Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 It's only 16" deep with the stand. The panel itself is 4" or so. Many retailers list the spec size with the stand included!
mike7311 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Costco also offers a warranty that lets you return it up to 3 years from the original purchase with a full refund if your not satisfied. It is up to the manager, but most will give you your money back as long as the tv doesn't have physical damage. This is a little known secret ask customer service for more details.
RossMAN Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 First of all I would recommend researching both models by searching AVSForums.com by the model numbers Here are some interesting threads I found:Toshiba 50HP66, anyone own this set?Toshiba's 42HP66 and 50HP66 - when?50” Plasma’s- Which One?Which of these two would you pick?Plasma advice neededHelp me choose a 50" Plasma PleasePhilips 50PF9431D/37 Opinions?50" plasma HDTV Recommendation- Budget????Toshiba 50HP16 at CostcoSomething wrong with Toshiba Plasma?Toshiba 50HP66 problemToshiba 50hp16 PlasmaToshiba 50HP66 vs. Pioneer PDP-5070HD
AaronOnline Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 I have always liked Phillips and they are pretty good if you need help or there is a problem you need to discuss with them. As far as the specific TVs, I say, again, the Phillips.. a little more pricey but worth every penny.
