ckbarefootkc Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I bought my son a laptop for Christmas and looking for a router. It came with a linksky card so I guess I need a linksy router. Anybody know of any good deals out there. Thanks in advance.
Marcster Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I've never heard of "Lindsky" routers. Are you sure you don't mean "Linksys"?
ckbarefootkc Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 Marcster - thank you for correcting me. It is Linksys I am looking for. If anybody sees a good price, please let me know. Thanks.
rae662000 Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I think that the only good deal on these are Best Buy on Black Friday giving away a gift card with a purchase $10 and $20 amount. Check out the Black Friday ad on this site.
alexei23 Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 It doesn't make a difference which router you use, you can buy any wireless router for your son's laptop. The biggest thing you have to worry about is your signal strength and unless your son is taking the laptop to neighbors around the corner it shouldn't be a problem. ...I bought my dad a wireless ParkerVision router and adapter set from Geeks.com last year. I have a Dell laptop with an internal WiFi modem and it works perfectly with the router (which is next door 2 lots away). I also bought a USB Belkin adapter for my desktop and it picks up the signal too. Whenever I go out of town I am always picking up a signal from someone, especially at hotels and airports.

Gurnee Al Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Correct, anyone's router will work. Staples will have a Netgear router for $19.98. Very good router for the price. I assume you have broadband at home so that your internet connection can be shared. If not, no need for a router.
