Gurnee Al Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Doorbuster. 60pk of DVD+R or DVD-R $2.98 after $25 Staples Easy Rebate. Limit one. Bring in an empty ink cartridge (HP, Lexmark or Dell) and get another $3 off to make the DVDs free after rebate! Anyone have any experience with the Playo brand??
-msmama- Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I bought 4 containers last yr. Half of 1 package wouldn't read when loaded for recording, but rest was fine. movie quality was like original. I'm gonna get more,,I don't mind a few coasters at that price.

Anyone have any experience with the Playo brand??I did not like my Playo discs that I got last year. I had a half of pack that would not burn or they would burn and would not read. And I lost my reciept so I actually paid just the sale price.
pcsoon Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I bought some last year and don't remember creating any coasters. Worked as well as any I've used. That rebate is pretty hefty so I probably won't buy them this year.
-msmama- Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 wasn't paying attention, that rebate is high. probably wait for next deal
lesliepear Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 We bought the Playo's last year and had some troubles with them (I think the +R worked better than the -R). But there was some confusion as to whether you could get the rebate on BOTH kinds or just one. Does anyone know what the policy will be this year?
len_mullen Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 wasn't paying attention, that rebate is high. probably wait for next dealI love the high easy rebates -- easy way to 'launder' my discover rewards -- pay $27.98 ($25 dr + 2.98) and I end up with the DVDs and $2 that I wouldn't have had if I took cash.
kaykwilts Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 How do these compare to the HP brand that is offered? The HP is quite a bit more expensive.
Marcster Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 How do these compare to the HP brand that is offered? The HP is quite a bit more expensive. In my experience, things recorded to "name brand" DVDs: HP, Verbatim, Sony, TDK, etc. (brands you "know") will last for the long-haul. Lesser-brands such as RiData, Playo, AVB, etc. will last less than a month after recording. I use lesser-brands for DVDRing television shows since I'll typically watch it within a week after recording. For stuff that matters, use a name-brand. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileys/10.gif
kaykwilts Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 A few months ago we got some Office Depot DVD-R that were on sale and a lot of them ended up with coasters.
Ripn Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Here's some reading if you want some ideas as to why you shouldn't buy cheap no-name media. I have bought free AR dvd's before, and I use them for storing data for short periods of time...nothing that I really want to last. I stick with Verbatim & Sony (made in Japan) for what I want to last.
Ripn Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I use lesser-brands for DVDRing television shows since I'll typically watch it within a week after recording.I use DVD+RW's for that..hopefully they last longer than VHS tapes do when you tape over and over.
Marcster Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I use DVD+RW's for that..hopefully they last longer than VHS tapes do when you tape over and over.I've read that DVD+RWs can be re-recorded about 6 times.
hpowers Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I took mine back from last year. They stink if you ask me!
-msmama- Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I used my playo's to copy well over 100 mov & besides for a few coasters, they all still play just like new, no problems. & they get alot of use ( dvd-r) I just dont' care to do rebates.
Ripn Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I've read that DVD+RWs can be re-recorded about 6 times.I have a 25 pack of RiData DVD+RW that I have used over and over for almost 2 years now...I bet the top of the pack has been re-recorded at least 20 times, and they still work perfectly. Looks like I have about 980 more re-records left on them :) http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa11.htm Disc Longevity How many times can a DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM disc be rewritten? As is the case with other optical storage media using phase-change technology there is a limit to the number of times the recording layer in a DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM disc can be reliably switched between its crystalline and amorphous states. It is estimated that a DVD-RW or DVD+RW disc can be rewritten approximately 1000 times and a DVD-RAM 100,000 times. In addition, these formats (under certain circumstances) employ defect management schemes to actively verify data and skip over or relocate problems to a spare area of the disc.
magiclady Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Yes, I bought the Playo ones on their last promotion (50 for 5.00) and they didn't work with the I/O Magic DVD Burner I bought there. Seems like they need to be 16x. and those were 4x.
