RchristinaH Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Did anyone purchase an extended warranty when they bought their WM laptop? If so, how much and what does the warranty cover? Does anyone know if its too late to purchase the extended warranty? Or did anyone receive a Vista upgrade coupon? Thanks!
oscar1961 Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I didnt get it for the 2 laptops, it cost $68 for each 2yrs, I think to much money, im sure it covered the whole laptop, If something go's wrong with mine Im sure I can fix it. Vista upgrade the new os for windows that is going to cost about 250.00 or more when it comes out. more money. no thanks
LondonAtDark Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT Buy any extended warranty for any ITEM! It is a WASTE of money! All that warranty will cover is NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. If you drop it, dog pee's on it, get a virus on your laptop it will NOT BE COVERED! I work for an office supply company and you will not belive the calls I get from people who brought the bogus extended warranty and think all of the above and more would be covered. And then argue with you when it isn't. SAVE YOUR MONEY!
liam2198 Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 The warranty doesn't go into effect until the Compaq warranty runs out. And then it is good for two years. They said it will cover anything. Even if a power surge kills it. It cost 69 dollars. Don't know if you can get it afterward.
ozziebandit Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 You are much better off to put a rider on your home insurance to cover your stuff. It costs me $20.00 a year to insure my laptop....and I SPECIFICALLY asked the agent if it would be covered if one of my lil darlin's drove over it with a vehicle...of any type! She laughed and said yes...so if the dog does his business (not likely), I drop it on the way to the car (as the ice increases, so do the chances of that!) or the bookshelves above it fall onto it (ok, maybe I do have too many books!) it is covered. The warrenties you buy from the store are almost always a waste of your money.
Guest JeepMom Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I didn't get any kind of vista coupon with it.
ihateshopping Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Look what I found about the vista upgrade http://www.hp.com/united-states/advertising/walmart/index.html
Ladylash Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Hello, yes I was out there @ 5:00 am Sunday Morning. Yes I purchase the extended warranty, and no it's not too late to purchase it. Just keep your receipt.

Yes, the store will say the extended warranty covers "Everything". They will say that to get you to buy it and the person taking your money may be getting a bonus for how many people they get to sign up for it. READ THE FINE PRINT of the warranty brochere before you buy it. You will be suprised what "Everything" doesn't cover....
digman6 Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Our Walmart Is Out Of Those Laptops And Not Getting Anymore In No Rainchecks It Was Whe Supply Lasts.
amickeyfan Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 while the HP site may say that these laptops can upgrade to Vista, I am on mine now & did a Visat compatible run.. guess what ...they aren't unless you upgrade many things on it. I am very upset, that is false advertising.. I am going to contact HP/Walmart about it.. they lied. Says that the computer must have a 512 memory, which these do..but when scan runs on it, says it is only 384... so must have at least 512 clear..not with anything on it the computer. It states that you need 1gig for optimal performance..
amickeyfan Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 If you cover your laptop with a seperate rider on your homeowner's.. how do you collect if it isn't from an accident... say if it crashed & cannot be restored... they don't cover that do they? I didn't take out the extended policy. I usually do not take them out, but never really thought of doing it thru the homeowners...
rae662000 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I did get the laptop and yes I did buy the warranty. Still deciding on the warranty, but I would not put this on my homeowners insurance. Small claims are a no no to insurance companies and will get you cancelled....so be careful if you do that.

In Jan I am going into some pool insurance thru them... so yeah, I should not do that. I would never get homeowners then. I had not thought about that. You are right....

CarpeDiem Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I wish I would have gotten extended warranty on my POC Dell

sissykus Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I bought the 398 laptop from WM and did not get a warrrenty or that other thing you were talking about. What do you do to cover it under your homeowners/renters insurance?
