At this point, it's looking more and more like Christmas 2007 as opposed to summer. JK Rowling is still writing as of now and hasn't even settled on a title yet.

(By the way, I say mysteriously, keep an eye on Remus Lupin in this one....)

I read an article several months ago stating that she was done writing and had a title but production was not going to be stated until like December of this year with a release date sometime next July.

I really love these books and movies. I just wish they would make the movies closer together. I think that the characters are looking to old to be playing 13, 14, 15 year olds.

I have heard that since everything in the book revolves around the number 7 so much (i.e. 7 years of school, and there are a few others i cant remember) that she may be releasing it on 7/7/07. It would only fit as alsmot everything she writes has some sort of meaning behind it.

Harry Potter 7 will be released July 7, 2007.

At least, it should be. While this date has no doubt already crossed the minds of many fans, JK Rowling's recent revelation that "2006 will be the year" she writes the final book lends itself entirely to this theory.

That, and it is the biggest stroke of magical marketing luck so far this century. The book simply can't not be released on 07/07/07. It's too perfect.

It just so happens that July 7, 2007 is a Saturday. It just so happens that every Potter book since Goblet of Fire has been released on a Saturday (presumably to allow kids and their parents to attend those midnight release parties without undue hardship). It just so happens that July 7 falls right in the traditional June-July release window during which the other books were released. (Finally, while less relevant but still interesting, 12:00 a.m. on Saturday will be 7 p.m. Friday in the U.S., where the most Potter books have been sold to date. Fans on the east coast, already lined up to buy their copies, will see book 7 released across the pond at 7 p.m. local time - what a coincidence.)

Rowling has hinted at the significance of the number 7, most recently in August when her official site's Wizard of the Month was an arithmancer who discovered the number's magical properties. In Half-Blood Prince, it was revealed that Lord Voldemort had made seven horcruxes (himself included). Quidditch teams have seven players each. Gryffindor Tower's entrance is on the seventh floor at Hogwarts. The list goes on and on.

From her own website:

OCTOBER 31st

I've now got a third title. I've been thinking back, and I know that I've had more titles than this for a couple of the previous books, so I'm not too worried by this. Title three currently ahead by a short nose, or perhaps that should be a vowel and two consonants.

I've just had a great writing week. There are few feelings more joyous than reading back over the week's work and thinking 'that's not bad at all', as opposed to the all-too-frequent, 'it's rubbish, I've wasted a week and I'll have to re-write the lot.' And if you think that's an exaggeration or false modesty, you are very, very wrong. It's perfectly possible to put in eight hour days and have nothing to show for them but a single idea that, if reworked completely, might be passable.

Congratulations on your W.O.M.B.A.T. scores, incidentally. You're getting pretty good.

She is most certainly not finished.

Bookmark it, trust me.

It is a great site. And for the last book, there was a great buildup. The site had clues to many questions, etc. It is overall a really good site :) I would suggest bookmarking as well :)

Retailers Taking Early Book Seven Pre-Orders; Jo still "happily writing"

Though represenatives for Jo have told TLC today that she is still "happily writing" book seven as we spoke, and though no title or release date have yet been released, there has been a lot of Book Seven anticipation going on by retailers over the past few weeks.

We have been receiving many emails letting us know that several online booksellers are now, or soon will be, taking pre-orders for the last Harry Potter book. Amazon Germany for example has recently sent out emails alerting the fact they are taking pre-orders for Book Seven, which they say is "Verlag: Bloomsbury (2007)," or to be released by Bloomsbury in 2007. Please note, the email and pre-order link do NOT include a title nor a specific release date for Book Seven. HPANA is also reporting today that Barnes & Noble soon will be displaying signs indicating they will be taking Book Seven pre-orders in the near future as well. Readers will remember this same sort of early pre-orders happened long before the release of the last two books, so we should not get our hopes up yet.

Until Jo updates with news on the status of the book, the title, or the release date, please take everything with a grain of salt. We will update you with more should this change. Thanks to everyone who mailed and to HPANA!
