SoCalCyclist Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 What do the vets on here think? Will there be some smokin' deals on XBOX 360 systems closer to XMAS or possibly some early bird doorbusters on BF? Should I just bite the bullet and head to Costco or Best Buy now and buy a bundle for $500+ or wait to see if some deals pop up?
Bestbuy7 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Dont get your hopes up. You probably will see a bundle or two but no big major discount. After all it has only been 1 year , I highly doubt to see a pricecut.
priyaradha Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I am also hoping for a discounted core system. Got to wait and see.
rogue1230 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I can't see there being any really good deals on the 360- it's just too early for that. I think the stores really have their hands tied with that one.
SoCalCyclist Posted October 19, 2006 Author Posted October 19, 2006 I am also hoping for a discounted core system. Got to wait and see.Anyone know what the real limitations are of the "core system"? Is it that it won't play the original Xbox games because it doesn't come with the external hard drive? The $300 core system is a much more attractive price than the $500+ bundles. I don't need the wireless controllers, or the HDTV hookup, or the Live trial CD's, or the the Live Headset, or the bundled games. However, if I need the external Hard Drive to play the original Xbox games then I'll have to buy that as well.

But the thing is... if you plan on buying a hard drive, then you might as well just buy the Premium system. Core system = $299Hard Drive = $100Total = $399 Premium System = $399 Premium already comes with a Hard Drive... AND...Wireless controllerHD cablesXBox Live headsetChrome trim (Believe me... the chrome tray makes the system look better) Also... you need the hard drive to play old XBox games... however... they are not all 100% compatible... the only games supported are on this list... but Microsoft is updating the system to add games to this list all the time: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm To use XBox Live you need a Hard drive or a 64MB memory card. It is VERY dumb to opt for a memory card over a hard drive. Hard drive is 20 GB for $100Mem card is 64 MB for $40 Get the premium! Anything else is a "Tard Pack."
mamapenguin Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 The $399 system is the way to go. Do you plan on playing on LIVE? You'll need the HDD for all of your arcade games & other downloadable content. The MU doesn't hold that much. I bought the CORE on launch day because it was all I could get. I wanted a PREMIUM, but they were all gone. I bought the MU & headset first & then tracked down a HDD. There are rumors of a price cut this holiday season I just don't know when or how much. XBOX LIVE was off line on 10/17 for 24 hours adding new serves & stuff. They're preparing for something.....GL, I think there will be some BF deals. You know MS wants to steal Sony's moment. Whatever you do, get the extended warranty through MS. My first 360 died about 3 weeks ago. They replaced it within about a week.
SoCalCyclist Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 Thanks guys! Excellent advice! Guess I'm goin with the premium. Now I just have to hope for some sort of price break or deal.
SoCalCyclist Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 Get the premium! Anything else is a "Tard Pack."Is that like Bantha Fodder? :)
J_Man Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Yeah like others said, I doubt there will be any deals on a 360. What will happen is that Microsoft will sell a lot of systems that would have been Nintendo and Playstation 3 sales. While Nintendo and Sony have few and far between shipments, many will get tired of searching and just get a 360.
nickied527 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I would think they would WANT to lower their price, not even a lot just to get sales moving since there will be TWO new systems out. Especially the long-awaited Zelda(after all the setbacks I was beginning to think this game was mythical) that only plays with Wii.
VaderGCP Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 MS announced that there will be no price drop for a significant time. Not until they don't lose any, or as much, money off every system sold.
ElPolaco Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Thanks guys! Excellent advice! Guess I'm goin with the premium. Now I just have to hope for some sort of price break or deal.Look on Overstock.com . They have the 360 Premium for 398 and with a 10% discount coupon (Overtock.com Coupons) it will save you 40 bucks or so... and overstock usually has 1.00 shipping. Sometimes overstock even has 12% off coupons and 15% off. Make sure to add like a pen or some other non media filler in there to get the price. You should be able to snag the premium for 35 bucks off or so. EDIT: And if you apply for the Overstock.com Rewards Visa Card you can get an additional 30 bucks (that you receive with your first purchase using the card.) That gives you a xbox 360 for around 330.00.
musicboi10 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 When you said that you have to get something else, could it be an accessory to the Xbox 360 like a remote for the DVD player???
ElPolaco Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 No, it can't be media related (cds, books, electronics.) I got this deal about a month ago using a 15% off coupon they had at the time and got the 360 for 319 I believe. I just added a 2.50 pen (very nice pen btw.)
mrn8 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Overstock.com is going to be your best bet for a deal anytime soon. The 360 is still the latest offering from MS, so unless they decide to give us a price drop, I don't believe we'll see any significant deals before Christmas.
musicboi10 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Look on Overstock.com . That gives you a xbox 360 for around 330.00. When I click on the title of the coupon in Coupon Cabin, the page doesn't show up. How do I apply the discounts??? Also, can I apply more than one??? For example, can I use the 10% discount and then add the remote to make it a $400 purchase so that I can use the coupon for that as well???

I will just get something non-media related to go with it. I will probably get a pen as well...
mrn8 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Overstock doesn't typically allow coupons to be stocked, especially with referal coupons. If you click through a referal link with a % off coupon, the discount will show up when you go to check out. Oh, and GottaDeal has a good selection of Overstock.com coupons. Overstock.com coupon listing Save $40 on $400 Purchase Save 10% on Entire PurchaseSave $10 on $99 Purchase (new customers) Save $30 on $250 Purchase
ElPolaco Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 You can use the 10% on the 360 and remote though... just can't use the remote to get the discount. The coupon should come up (check your pop up blocker if you have one.) Edit: In reference to Musicboi's post.

Overstock.com coupon listing Save $40 on $400 Purchase Save 10% on Entire PurchaseSave $10 on $99 Purchase (new customers) Save $30 on $250 Purchase In this case it does... because it is only one coupon (the 10% off coupon --same one as you mentioned-- and then the $30 off is something that automatically applies when using the card for the first time.) If the $30 dollars doesn't apply before checking out then email/chat with technical support and they will give you a $30 credit (I had this happen, I just purchased 3 months of xbox live and a play and charge kit.)
musicboi10 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Why do you need to purchase the pen in order to get the $30 discount???
mrn8 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Why do you need to purchase the pen in order to get the $30 discount???That bumps your order total over the $400 threshold. The system itself is $398, so you would actually be getting a $40 discount.
ElPolaco Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 You don't... the $30 applies when you sign up for their credit card-it has no restrictions. The pen has to be placed in your cart when using the %10 off coupon. (You CAN however stack both, however you will need to add the pen or some other nonmedia filler.)
musicboi10 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I am currently unsuccessfully trying to add the coupons to Overstock. I am trying to get an Xbox 360 Pro ($398), a pen, and a remote. I am trying to use both coupons (10% off and $40 off a $400 purchase). I was thinking of using the $40 off on the 360 and pen alone, and then get the remote and another cheap pen for 10% off. When I try to click on the coupon, it says "THIS PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED."
ElPolaco Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Are these 2 seperate transactions? You could just combine them and use the 10% off coupon. Save on shipping. I added everything like this... Premium- 398.99Remote- 26.55Dividers (Edit: Here something relatively cheap (5 bucks) that can be added as filler http://www.overstock.com/?page=proframe&prod_id=973614) 4.82 Shipping 2.95coupons- 43.04 Total 390.27 EDIT: Unless these are two seperate transactions that won't work... even if it did it won't save you anything... you will basically get the remote with free shipping. Do as I did above and that should be good(unless you found cheaper filler.) Good luck
musicboi10 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 The main problem is that my computer is not letting me click on these coupon links for some reason. It says "THIS PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED" for some reason.
mrn8 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Try this for 10% off: http://www.gottadeal.com/Coupon/1117This one for $40 off $400:http://www.gottadeal.com/Coupon/1127This one for $30 off $250: http://www.gottadeal.com/Coupon/1116
ElPolaco Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 That probably has to do with your pop up blocker... I am not technical in that regard, so I can't help you. Good luck, the deal is laid out for you. Maybe email/call overstock tech. support?
