tiredsportsmom Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 My son is a freshman in college so its hard to buy for him. Last yr we got him a laptop. He mentioned the other day he'd kinda like to have a digital camera. Any suggestions on which one(s) are the best? I was looking at the Kodak with printer dock. Any suggestions??? Thanks!
ms_mckenna Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Kinda depends on the amount you want to spend? Do you have a price range? The best would be a SLR but they are around 700 and up .
RossMAN Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 tiredsportsmom, What's your budget? I would recommend the Canon PowerShot series which offers the best image quality at affordable prices.

Both of which I have consistently found lacking in Kodak cameras.
Edgemonster Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 I have the kodak C340 easy share with printer dock and love it! It's small, lightweight and easy to use. The software that comes with it is great and you can do so much with your pics on that. I've recently seen that bundle going for $179.99 at several places but saw it last on amazon.

RossMAN Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 If you only need a digital camera and your budget is limited, here's another option: Kodak EasyShare C530 for $104.99 @ CC
lennon2004 Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Walmart has the Kodak EasyShare C530 with printer dock for $174.54I have that. I recommend not getting the printer unless you're SURE he's going to use it though. I got it with mine, although I was unsure I would use it, and I only have a few times because I get prints online. The quality of both the camera and the printer is excellent, although the zoom is lacking.

mrn8 Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Here are two excellent choices that are feature-packed and very good quality: Canon A540 - $172.94 shippedCanon A530 - $135.49 shipped
lennon2004 Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Do you have any sample pictures you can share with us?Well of course! Keep in mind that the camera goes up to 5MP but for space reasons (on my computer, not my camera, yes, I know, I can get things hold my pictures, I just haven't yet) I generally keep it on 2.1MP. Anyway... http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/2933/1002325hm8.th.jpg http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/3020/1002702fd9.th.jpg http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/913/1002721ru6.th.jpg http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/2955/mb259lp3.th.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/7757/mb302nu9.th.jpg http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9046/mb273ov2.th.jpg Okay, I guess that's enough. :) I can take them at different sizes too, if anyone wants to see. Oh, and since I mentioned the zoom, here's a pic zoomed in just a bit and here's one zoomed in all the way http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/3793/1002709yi3.th.jpg http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/668/mb82ty6.th.jpg (yeah, I know the last one looks crappy, but it printed out much better than I thought it would - basically, it's not a good camera to take close-up concert pics, even from the front row)
guilliam Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I have the Kodak z7400 with printer dock and I cannot say enough good things about it!! I absolutely LOVE this camera!!! Great zoom, and quality!! I won't be replacing it for a LOOOONG time!
nobodybutme Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I've got a Sony Mavica That I love, It uses mini CD-r's and rw's I have, or had 2 Kodak C340's But I only have one now. You have to watch Kodak on their warranty. One of the C340's I only used it once and took about 10 pictures, next time I went to use it, it wouldn't turn on. This was less then 2 weeks after getting the cameras. I turned it in for warranty service and sent it in to a third party company for service. I get an e-mail stating what was wrong with it and it was going to be fixed, a few days later I recieved a snail mail letter stating that there was water damage and I was going to have to pay something like $150 to fix it (I just paid $180 for it new) and if I didn't want it fixed and wanted it returned to me I would have to pay almost $50 ti get it back. I called them up and was basically told that I had got the camera wet (it was kept in a case and stored with about $3500 of other equiptment that Still works) They wouldn't give me any proof and wouldn't return my Camera unless I paid. So I called Kodak and was flat out told that they have nothing to do with their warranty service and what ever the company said was correct and I was wrong no matter what I said. For this reason I will NEVER Buy another product from Kodak all they care about is the mighty $$$ and not the people that spend it.. Sorry for the long rant
