Guest Frieked Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Nintendo has revealed to the New York Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer that its Wii console will make its much anticipated debut on November 19 for the retail price of $250. The price may be $50 more than some were expecting, but Nintendo is including Wii Sports as a pack-in title. Update: Here's the NYT article: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/14/technology/14game.html
Guest Frieked Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Just in time for Black Friday.Exactly... :) I wouldn't wait until then... I'm stopping by EB games during my lunch break, hopefully now that there's an official release date they will start taking pre-orders. And also, since nintendo is adding in wii sports as a pack in game, hopefully retailers won't force other bundles upon the customers...
jadedmomof2 Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Well, I was heading to TRU today anyway(gotta buy Lego Star Wars and get the $5 gift card), might as well see if I can pre-order it. $250 to me is much more reasonable for a next-gen console than the $400-600 for the other systems.

The only hard thing then will be keeping him from giving it too DS early.
Guest Frieked Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Also in the announcement, 25-30 games will be available for the Wii by year end.
bayhaysay Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Also in the announcement, 25-30 games will be available for the Wii by year end....and about 30 classic games will be available for download when the Wii is released, including ones from the Zelda, Mario and Donkey Kong franchises. Downloadable games will cost about $5 to $10 each.

I just checked their site and it is still set up for sign ups for email notification. Please let me know if they are accepting preorders when you find out?! Thanks!!

Guest Frieked Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 why do they have to bundle a freaking sports game! I hate sports games and so does everyone else in my house!! Blech!!!!!I can tell you why... The new controller is the big innovation in this system and Wii Sports will show off the new controller probably better than any other of the launch titles.
ccarson1972 Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I plan on calling first... I'll let you know what I find out.Thanks!!

Guest Frieked Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Update: Nintendo Just made the date official on the Wii's homepage:http://wii.nintendo.com/
Guest Frieked Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I plan on calling first... I'll let you know what I find out.I just called up gamestop to find out their deal. I got a better answer out of them... They definitely won't start taking orders in-store today.Basically their system updates overnight with the latest information so he said to keep trying back every morning. He said he also has heard rumors that it would be Monday morning but he said call back every day just in case.

jeninpa Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I am going to get my kids one of these! Thanks!
mugs Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 The Wii Sports put me over the edge... I'm going to pre-order it as long as I can do so without buying anything else other than Zelda and an additional controller. I won't be terribly disappointed if I don't get it on launch day though, I have a backlog of GameCube and Xbox games I haven't gotten around to playing that'll hold me over well into next year.

One price, one config, one color: white. This simplicity allows us to maximize volume throughout the Americas. Our shipment goal worldwide is 4M consoles during the 43 days between launch and Dec 31. The Americas will receive the largest share, a continuous flow of units."
RossMAN Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I'm a big fan of Mario games, are there any *MUST HAVE* games which will be available on launch day?
jadedmomof2 Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I'm a big fan of Mario games, are there any *MUST HAVE* games which will be available on launch day?Hopefully, Zelda-Twilight Princess will be out on release day. Not sure about any Mario games though. I want Zelda, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
Scott Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I haven't had a console in quite some time, but I'm actually considering this one. I will have to see it in action before I make a final decision.
