Marcster Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 My wife and I go to Office Depot, Staples, and OfficeMax. http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Sorry%20Help/N1StopTheMadness.gifWe avoid the craziness at Wal-Mart, KMart, Best Buy, Circuit City, and Sears... I like my sanity! We don't have any kids, so I have no need to brave Toys R Us or KB Toys... http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Non-Smiling/OuttaHere.gif I was wondering how many other GottaDealers go to "secondary" stores exclusively on BF? http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Hmmm/thinker1.gif
Gurnee Al Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Typically, my top 4 targets are Best Buy, Office Max, Kohl's and Menards (local poor-man's Home Depot). By far, the least craziness is at Office Max!!
mrn8 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 If there's something I really want, I'll got to Best Buy, Circuit City, or Target first. After that, it's usually Kohl's, Menards, Home Depot, Dick's Sporting Goods, or cruising the mall. Hopefully there's a stop for a good meal in there, too. :)
Scott Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 It all depends on the deals for me. I would consider Best Buy if there was something of great interest to me. I don't really want to be anywhere near other big department stores though.
Aaron Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 It all depends on the deals for me. I would consider Best Buy if there was something of great interest to me. I don't really want to be anywhere near other big department stores though.Same here, all depends on the deals.
NeepNeep Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 We usually end up at RS, OM, OD at some point on BF, but so far they haven't been our first place or only places to shop on BF.
bugsette Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I usually do go to Radio Shack but not the first stop in the middle of the other stores.
shopping mom Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I usually always start a Walmart, after that it depends on what I want most, who is helping me shop (besides DD) and where DD has gone first. Last year she started a KB Toys for me. I usually get to Radio Shack sometime during the day too though. They have areally cut radio controlled Barbie car I'd like to see go on sale.
AuntJamelle Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 DH and I typically end up wanting items from the secondary stores and make those are main stops. We might hit Walmart or Target, but its our last stop of the morning. I don't think I could ever want something badly enough to start out at Best Buy on Black Friday - my girlfriend worked at one last year and boy did I hear some stories! But to each his own! :)
dietcokejunkee Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I usually will hart WalMart first, and I get in and out in 10 minutes (after waiting in line for 4-6 hours) and then I chill and hit all the other secondary stores. Usually Radio Shack and Office Max and Ulta. Then I go home and go back to bed.
LP Malmsten Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I get the best deals at the "secondary stores." I refuse to wait hours and hours at TRU or Wally World. Staples one year-- for a 20-minute wait before opening-- resulted in an $8 scanner, a free phone, a $1 stack of blank CD's, and a $3 game controller. I think I spent $19 total and was out in 10 minutes. I have done KMart early, but I think it's considered "secondary" in our area. Haven't gone unless there was a specific item I wanted to score, like gold jewelry or half-price Lego sets where I had coupons in addition. Alas, our Lego years are past. I spend a lot of time on the boards and looking at ads (not just BF but for the weekend before) and I have a good idea what I'm going to dive in and get. I WILL NOT spend hours in a check out line, either. At some point, my time is more valuable and the sporting aspect is lost. If I had someone who needed Santa to bring a gotta-have something, might be a different story, because Santa NEVER disappoints at our house. This year the gotta-haves will be more money, I-tunes cards, etc. I expect. I end up wrapping up socks and toothbrushes, just so there's still lots to open!
diecastbeatdown Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 staples is my number one. i've been first in line three years in a row. i never see deals to justify the mobs at walmart or 2+day wait at bestbuy. circuitcity might be a decent place, but the one by my house gets rushed when the doors open and they didn't do vouchers last year - i heard some horror stories. after that i goto sears or ace hardware and just cruise around.
able Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 i would say office max and best buy would be in the same catagory.and yes ill go to both
yuyi64 Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I won't go near a Walmart on BF! I hit the electronic and office supply stores, then Home Depot if they have something I need or want. I leave the Walmart madness to my wife and her equally-crazy shopping buddies. I'm usually home by 11am, ready to watch the annual LSU-Arkansas football game (which usually ends up determining whether LSU or Auburn wins the SEC West title).
Daisimae Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 CC hasn't been a bad place for me to be. I've been in the first 10 people in line for the last two years. I know exactly what I am looking for, get it when the door opens and then make a beeline for the registers. When I get out, I usually head to Staples. If I'm still standing after that I prefer, Target or WM in that order.
elena_398 Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I usually shop online at places like that. No super deals that make me put them on my list to run too. I mainly go to Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, and K mart
Gporter34 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 I always make Radio Shack my second stop for all of the neat stocking stuffers and to stock up on all of the batteries I will need!
mitchandalisha Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I go to Carson Pirie Scott first, then Macy's (used to be LS Ayres), then we walk around the mall and go to JC Penney's and Sears. Then to Kohls and Target. No kids and I'm not that "into" electronics. My husband wanted tools last year, but his parents bought them all for him, so no need to look for those this year! The mall is very crazy and Carson's has lines about 30 people long at each register!
CheapJules Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 We always hit Staples first, and our always out within 5 minutes. One year we scored many free after rebate items, over $60 worth. Then on to Sears for clothing deals. In the past, we've done Best Buy, but they dont' have anything that worth the 2-3 hour wait in line to me. Since my kids are older, I don't have to brave the lines at KB or TRU anymore either. We also really like going to CVS, Walgreens, Brooks, the smaller stores. They're rarely busy but have great hidden finds!
cactusmom Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 I never have hit the smaller stores, it all depends on who has what I want
First Lady Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Menards is my first stop, always a mad house! I hit Yonkers too because they have free $10 gift cards you can use. I can't say I've ever gone to any of the big stores, try to avoid those until the evening when it is calm.
tootsieroll23 Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 We just got a Best Buy this year so I am sure DH will have that on the top of his list just so he can experience the madness once. Before the Best Buy we always hit places like Staples, Office Depot, Target, and Bath and Body.
H_Hancock Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 The wife and I usually split up BB and CC between ourselves and we do the camp-out thing, starting at mn last year....probably a bit earlier this year, but it depends on what's there. We've never had a problem getting in and out of either store in under 20 min. We go in with very specific items in mind, get them and head to the checkout line, which is usually quite short in the first 15 min. or so. But since our BB and CC both use a ticket system for the hot items (doorbusters), and have for years, it makes getting in and out very fast and easy. Did make the mistake of going back into the BB at 1PM last year. The checkout line wound around the inside of the store and doubled back on itself.....wait time, according to a few people toward the front of the line, was approaching 2-3 hours. The "secondary" stores, on the other hand, get their crush in the first half-hour or so and then are rather empty afterwards, at least the ones we frequent, so they are saved for later.
sigrist_2000 Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 those are usually last stops for us after the big four here (Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and Meijer) But it all depends on whats on sale and what we need at the time...so it can all vary...lol
SuperMommy Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Sorry, I can't go without Circuit City. (The closest Best Buy is an hour away.) I do try to stay away from Wal-Mart till after lunch.
BabyFu18 Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I usually don't hit the secondary stores and if I do it's after all my big store stops. I usually hit: Best Buy Circuit City Target Toys R Us Walmart Kmart BX/PX Later I like to hit stores in the mall like Dillards, Macys, Express, etc. to see what they have and that's when I'll hit the secondary stores if I feel like it, it's no big loss for me if I don't make it to those places. This year I might add Kohls to my primary list of stores to hit, because we have one opening up soon, but I'll have to see what kind of deals they have.
sigrist_2000 Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 yes Kohl's is a very good place for deals on that day..but lines are like BestBuy...
