pinkroses4mommy
We are planning on taking our kids to Washington D.C. for spring break (April 8-15). I have been looking at hotels in Arlington and DC area, and they are very expensive. I don't want to stay in a yucky hotel though. Does anybody recommend a hotel, or has anyone had good results with hotwire or any of those sites? Thanks.

forsberg
A few years ago I stayed at the Hotel Harrington and it was inexpensive, clean, and close to the White House, Smithsonian and other landmarks and a subway station. Although it was so hot and muggy the summer I was there, I mostly stayed inside the Smithsonian. I also took public transportation (bus and subway) from Dulles Airport to DC. Came out to only $1.50 back then.
pinkroses4mommy
Hotel Harrington looks great, but they are sold out during my dates. Thanks for recommending it, though.
erica
we stayed at Comfort Inn, Oxon Hill, MD this summer, its 10 miles from downtown DC. we got it from choicehotels.com and I checked for your dates, the rate starts from $56/night (Rhodeway Inn), and if you are AAA member you can low it down 6 bucks/night. Try priceline.com too, sometimes it gives us great deals.
Corporate Gal
There are good deals to be had in Crystal City of Arlington, I used to live there. It is very safe and restaurants in the neighborhood are reasonable.
pinkroses4mommy
I have been looking in Arlington, as we will be coming up from the south. Any recommendations on which hotels?
mdcrim
FYI-be somewhat careful of your hotel choice. I was born and raised in the Washington area and I would personally avoid hotels in NE Washington, DC as well as anything in Prince George's Co, MD (where Oxon Hill is) for safety purposes. Case in point, there are several hotels on New York Avenue in NE DC and I see tourists all the time walking to and from their hotels looking PRETTY uncomfortable... You won't see THAT info on the hotel brochures. That being said, we've always had luck with priceline, but we seem to get the best deals when we plan a last-minute trip. Also, there is no subway from Dulles airport to DC (not planned until 2016 or so-if at all). The Washington Flyer bus is the "approved" bus that you can take, but I'd bet it is significantly more than $1.50 these days. Good luck planning your trip. April is a great time to be here (if this cold weather ever breaks)!

Then transferred to a train to DC. Looks like it currently costs $4.70 ($1.25 for disabled and seniors).
