mcwalker Posted November 14, 2014 Share Posted November 14, 2014 Reports today that a group of workers plan to protest in front of 1,600 Walmart stores on Black Friday for a $15 per hour wage and consistent work hours. It sounds like these people will march or protest in front of stores--it is not a general strike that would be likely to hamper operations in the stores. I'm a caregiver and work all kinds of hours and holidays. My job requires doing many things that others wouldn't be able to do. I make $8 an hour. What a bunch of fools asking for $15 an hour by standing in front of their respective stores holding up signs that will get them nowhere. Aren't they the same ones that complain about working on Thanksgiving? So now they're still going to "work" and miss the holiday by doing this, and for ZERO pay? SMH...I was getting ready to say something similar.All I can say is they better not get between people and the cheap towels or small appliances if they value their lives. misstaken Posted November 20, 2014 Share Posted November 20, 2014 It most likely won't last too long if they strike here. It's just too cold out. I'm all for the employees' rights to demonstrate as long as they don't create an unsafe situation for customers. They have the right to demand whatever they want, just as their employer has the right to make the best business decision for their company. Our city recently voted to increase minimum wage to $10.10/hour. I would imagine that's as close as they're going to get to what they're asking for. mamapenguin Posted November 21, 2014 Share Posted November 21, 2014 I worked for them holiday season a couple of years ago and the employees did NOT support the protesters and there was NO strike. I was at the biggest performing store in my area- they did One million dollars on the day of their grand reopening after adding grocery. People try to start the same BS each year, and from talking with the regular employees they do NOT support the strike and they are happy. There was a demonstration outside on Thanksgiving/Blackfriday in the parking lot that year, but it was something I read about in the news, there was barely a mention of it from customers and it had zero effect on sales.
