Brad Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/record-crowds-weekend-spending-declined-21063344 NRF has released their numbers: A record 248 million people are expected to shop in stores and online over the four-day Thanksgiving weekend that ends Sunday, up from last year's 247 million, according to the National Retail Federation. But total spending is expected to fall for the first time ever since the retail group started tracking it in 2006. Over the four-day weekend, spending is estimated to reach $57.4 billion, down 2.9 percent from last year. 2
abentley Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 The news doesn't surprise me as I realized 2 things. There are only so many t.v.'s/computers/tablets a household needs, and I must be getting old because I now see a pattern of the same things being offered every year! LOL! The other thing I think on everyone's mind is the economy with the new healthcare issues looming. 3
motoXmom Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I know here there were a TON of young kids - teens and I don't think they have a lot of money to be spending. Our mall was packed with them.. not saying it in a bad way just many looked like they were just hanging out not buying. In years past I hardly seen any out and about buying. 1

Tara3117 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I totally agree that it's going to take huge sales to motivate shoppers this year. We're spending at least the same amount on Christmas this year as last year (if not more) but I don't buy things unless they are on sale. I know there's no way to track this, but I'd be interested to see the full price of what's been purchased every year. Was spending down because people bought less or because prices were lower?
