momee2twins Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Looking at getting the Princesses each a Kindle Paperwhite (they have ipods and don't need the fire) and maybe one for my DH (he's a technophobe and barely operates a smartphone and also doesn't need the fire) . Never looked at these before. Better now or will Amazon run specials or BF them?
flosmoney Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Amazon doesn't run specials on the kindles. They just updated both lines. There will be Black Friday special in the stores. They generally offer gift cards or discounted prices.
shopping4my3son Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I picked up our kindle fires on sale on Amazon. Last year there was a lightning deal and this year a discount code for Mother's Day. I'm not sure if the paperwhite has been on sale but I've seen the other ones at a discount.
RBWilliams Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I got a Kindle on a lightning deal last year as well. Ohhhh. on Amazon...lol
len_mullen Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 If you have a Discover card and have a cash back balance, you can buy Staples $25 gift cards for $20. Effectively discounting their best deal 20%. Otherwise, watch for Best Buy, Walmart, and Sears to double their Discover card cash back to 10% in November. Start your purchase at ShopDiscover.com to earn that cash back. FWIW, I have an inexpensive Kindle e-ink reader. I love it by the pool or on the beach, but the rest of the time, I prefer the Fire. With Amazon dropping the price of the Fire HD, I strongly suggest you take a look before dismissing this amazing toy.
tyreejames Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 (edited) Chiming in as another who took advantage of the Kindle Fire lightning deal on Amazon last year. I was thrilled since I needed to get 2; I believe it were $30 off. Edited September 28, 2013 by tyreejames 1
Elmck Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I bought 1 kindle fire and 1 kindle fire hd last year on BF and took advantage of the gift cards offered at Office Max and Office Depot. Hoping to do the same this year if I decide to get dd10 one.
bpr Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 What kills me is one of the ideas behind the FIRST Kindles was to make a display (e-ink or whatever) that was easy on the eyes, so there was no eyestrain from reading on a computer. Which is great. The paperwhite I assume is still meeting that requirement, but they made it 'white' to look more like a book. The funny part is Kindle Fires (and apps for other devices) are made and contradict that idea of eyestrain prevention. I guess thats why they still make regular Kindles but give you the option to read on any device. I'm not complaining, because I use my e-ink Kindle for reading more than my Windows R/T or iPad (even though I have the option). 1

Everyone ask me if I want the the fire and I just tell them I am very happy with what I have. 1
jaymacfla Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 (edited) I have moved away from the concept of a kindle fire due to the lack of a Micro/SD slot. I am not trusting my personal files to the cloud, no matter what they claim. Samsung makes tablets which can take 32GB cards(64GB partitioned), and we use it all of the time when we travel. The GPS feature is great as is the long battery life. Edited September 29, 2013 by jaymacfla

peppysfireball Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 The fires are not ereaders. They are amazon's tablet line with a kindle app. They are not supposed to be like an ereader. Also, amazon has been putting them 40-50 off recently, and they will probably have the older models on lightning deals. They don't put the new models on lightning deals, but frequently do the older ones. I got mine for 30 off too last year. We hve several in the home and I go on amazon kindle forums every day to keep in touch. They are usually on sale for amazon mom or students mostly, but it is said the reason they have been on sale was to get rid of old stock since new ones were coming out.

I'm not sure if the paperwhite has been on sale but I've seen the other ones at a discount.I got 2 of them during the same lightning deal last year. (2 addies) I am hoping for another deal like that to buy one for ds and his wife.
momee2twins Posted October 18, 2013 Author Posted October 18, 2013 If I was getting one for me, I'd do a fire HD, but then I'd probably just go for the ipad at that point. I just want something they can read on. They game & stream netflix on their ipod 5th gens and we're getting them the input cords and flat screens for their rooms so they can watch netflix on a bigger screen than the ipod (but mommy still gets to "stalk" what they watch since its on my account)
hack2222 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I'd wait regardless. If you don't find a deal you can live with, you just get a longer warrenty. But I'd not wait to much after black friday to purchase one.
sas377 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I just got emailed a $40 off any Kindle deal on Friday, so I picked up a Paperwhite for $80. I had been looking for something a little smaller and lighter than my iPad to read books on while traveling. This is the best price I have seen.
Tigger97498 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I'd wait because I saw today that the kindle fire hd was on sale for $139 at staples (pry getting rid of them because of the new HDX

But I'd not wait to much after black friday to purchase one. It's time to start buying. Do the homework -- speculate about BF prices and set your price. If you get 'your' price, just make the buy. We are close enough to a deluge of flyers that you should be able to return/rebuy/price-adjust.
AndreaInNC Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Target normally has an e-reader on special. May be another Kindle one this year - I think they did the 3G Kindle 2 years ago (I scored one of those). They normally do the one that is going out of production.

Bopeep Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 ImageUploadedByGottaDeal1383020009.483662.jpg. I just got one for $9.Can't beat that!
mrscrafty Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I want one of the coupons.. Me too! I've checked several times, and found nothing.
erose630 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I got a $40 off Kindle coupon and can't decide if it's worth it, don't need a Kindle - don't know anyone who does...hmmm 1
gbeenie Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Yeah, since we're now suddenly in the market for a Kindle Fire (for the in-laws), I was hoping to land one of those deals. Dang.
gbeenie Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) I think I'll cool my heels and see what Black Friday/Cyber Monday have to offer. I'm hoping that, with Fire HDX models having rolled out, the prices on the Fire HD models will continue to head downward. Edited October 30, 2013 by gbeenie
Pepper_Mint_Tea Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Im hopping to find a good deal on it, I REALLY WANT ONE

They are a tablet with a reading app on it. Not the same at all. They will always have the ereaders available.
