A friend of mine just bought a new tv and I asked her if she got a plasma and she said no because their life span is only like three years! Has anyone heard this before?

I have heard that it's more like 5 years and that is if you leave the tv on 24 hours a day EVERY day. I have had my plasma for 3 years and it still works perfectly. I just have to have it serviced once a year (which is covered under the warranty) to make sure that the tubes are still working properly.

Consumer Reports has some great info on different types of TV's. I shyed away from the plasma because of the "burn-in" effect.
