I found this on retail-worker com

Saw recently on "FLS Sears 2012 Advertised Hours", Open at

8pm Thanksgiving until close on Friday. Black Friday doorbusters from 8pm

Thursday until 1pm Friday.

I am not sure if we are allowed to post links here but here is a link to the full discussion

http://www.retail-worker.com/forum/about13057.html

Some one else on the forum did respond that everyone at their store was talking about it and how it said they were opening 8:00pm thanksgiving until 10:00pm black friday.

I feel sorry for the employees if it turns out to be true. Personally I wish they would wait. DD says it should be called "Gray Thursday"

I worked for a department store that was open all night one Thanksgiving when I was in school. I had dinner with my family then headed to work. The place was dead for most of the night. We just kind of got ready for Friday. The manager sent us across the street for breakfast -- on the store -- in pairs through the night. It was kind of fun.

I enjoy holiday shopping from either side of the register.

And from the link above they said that Sears has deleted the information. Guess that was not supposed to get out yet. I think this does start the 2012 BF discussions.

I really enjoy shopping black friday, and also working and talking to all the people who have been out shopping all day...but I think we are getting carried away with being more worried about shopping on Thanksgiving than spending time with our families. I feel like I am working so much I look forward to those special occasions when it is all about family spending time together.

I feel for the employees too, though there are some who actually welcome working on holidays if they're earning overtime (like me).

Your DD nailed it with Gray Thursday and I think she should get the first shirt of the year. :)

I wish they would wait to. Last year I had to buy a 5 hour energy thing. I don’t think I will do it this year. I rather miss out on some deals then driving around that tired. - Did I really just say that? Miss out on some deals. Blasphemy - but I have a family to think about so NO DEALS if I am to tired to drive. Edited by jesusluvu

I thought midnight was fine but prefer 3 or 4 am as there are less people out. 8pm on Thanksgiving is just too early. Sadly the retailers will open if they can get business.

I also feel bad for people working retail........... my one sister in law does so we keep moving the time for Thanksgiving.... soon we will be eating turkey at 10:00 am.... just not right

The thing that gets me is everyone sorry for retail employees but what about restaurant people most restaurants are always open thanksgiving. I worked many many years on thanksgiving in food service. So this is not really a new thing. Do I wish it wasn't so of course I do but as long as there is greed (im talking about owners of service sector establishments) there will always be people who have to work on holidays.

Booooo!

I'm not surprised Sears would open on Thanksgiving, Kmart already does. I wish they (and other stores) would wait until at least midnight to start the big sales, 6am would be even better. The staggared start times at the various stores have become too hard to keep up with, especially when some stores choose multiple sale start times (Walmart). Maybe I'm just getting too old, but last year wasn't much fun for me because I was so tired, even after I skipped a few of the eariler sales to get some ZZZZs.

Maybe Sears will have a different sale from 8-midnight, then offer the BF stuff and the stoke of 12. Haven't they offerd 15-20% off coupons to use later in the day on Friday or Saturday before?

As an employee that works in a field that is 365/24/7 I don't feel bad for the workers. Now I do think there should be some extra compensation that happens like other fields like mine. I do however think this is getting a little out of hand. Last year was early enough in my book.

It sucks to work those hours but at least that means they have a job in this economy.

I personally dislike the hours because of all the teenagers that were loitering in the mall last year and the sleepy, crying babies. So many inconsiderate parents because of the earlier Black Friday hours. If the stores opened at 3 or 4 am like before, parents would leave children at home in their beds.

I said last year that I would not go to the sales that start Thursday night again. There were more people (good for the stores, I know), and they were more rude than I've ever experienced. I think it attracted a lot of people that were willing to STAY UP, but not willing to GET UP, which generally meant a younger crowd. I used to just shake my head reading the stories about fights and stuff, because my sister and I had never encountered that - until last year! I was disgusted, and claimed "never again!". Unfortunately for me, it's looking more and more like I can say goodbye to Black Friday shopping if I intend to stick to my guns.

When I worked retail at Kmart it was always an option to sign up for working Thanksgiving. There was never a shortage of people signing up. We only worked 4 hours at a time and many people liked the holiday pay.

You can get most things online. I barely bought anything B&M last year and we went out at 4 or something.

Sears in my state probably won't open til after midnight, Kmart in my town never opens on Thanksgiving either. I am happy we have the Blue Laws here, don't like the 8pm-12am openings..too early.

My family is great cause we all get together and plan everything like the military and then send out duos/trios to get things. Even the teens get to go out so they think its awesome. After the shopping, we all meet back at nanny's for leftovers! It really doesn't matter the DATE of the holiday, just as long as you enjoy your family...

Sorry but this is getting out of hand. Everyone is trying to get a jump on the competition. Used to be 7 or 8am, then moved to 5am, then midnight... some 10pm last year, now starting 8pm THURSDAY??? WTF IS WRONG WITH THESE RETAILERS???

our local Kmart here starts Nov 15 liquidating and close for good in January. they have already shut things down like layaway and such so no Black friday for them

Undersand the holiday working. DH was a store manager for Blockbuster for 13 years. Open 10 am to midnight 365 days per year back in the day. Managers were required to work the holidays. Back then, they were one of the only stores open on Thanksgiving. The were always packed all day long.
