Help!!! Need a TI84 plus calculator or above (TI89 or TI Inspire)

Recommended Posts

I just bought a TI-84 Plus, and 84 Plus Silver on eBay for around $50 each. They were both used, but that was okay with us. But be sure you read the description, and LOOK at the pictures very carefully... The non-silver was advertised as a silver, and I didn't catch it in the picture.

What is the difference between the TI 84 Plus and the TI 84 Plus Silver? I am new to all of this so please be patient .. I am in TN and was planning to take advantage of the sales tax weekend this week. Just trying to find the best deal. I will take a look at eBay this afternoon. Thanks for the tip!

Here's a nice chart that should help. Looks like the only difference is customizable face plates. Surely there's gotta be somethign else different for the difference in price...

Looks like it holds more too thanks for the link, it did help... not sure how much difference it will make but now I know what to look for. More is always better when it comes to stuff like this, if we skimp we usually end up buying it twice..

Be careful sending them to school. DD left hers in the desk and when she went back to get it less than 1 hour later .. it was gone.

Ouch! that is why I am looking at the TI84 plus instead of the Inspire.. Not sure I want him to take one so expensive to school. $100 is bad enough $150-$160 would be heartbreaking. I have went back & forth on which to get I think I will stick with the latter of them....thanks all for the advice .. Going for sales tax holiday (almost 10% off and my mom works at walmart so another almost 10%) should help, not alot of deals that look any better right now.. wish I could find one for $60..

Something to look into. My DS had to get one but it was for home use. Our school had enough for them to use while in school. That way I did not have to worry about him losing it or it getting stolen.

I would call the school and see. We did not find out until school started that he did not need to carry it to school just for home use. It would have saved me a lot because he could have borrowed his cousins. Now I know so DD is starting HS this year and wont have to run out and buy for her they can share the one at home.

I have heard that but was afraid that there wouldn't be enough and he would need for any at home work also... We may start with it staying home till we know one way or the other. This is just year 1 of 4 that he will need it, so I don't think it will be a waste and you can use it for the ACT..We don't start until Wed so I will know more then.

Just when I thought I had this down.. apparently it depends on "WHICH" teacher you get .. The one he has this year is wanting the TI-Nspire instead of the TI 84 + ... back to the drawing board!!

Oh yikes. Yeah, it seems the Nspire is the latest thing in the math world. I was talking to a math teacher this morning and he was saying that they are going to be using it more. It has software that the schools can purchase to go with it, and he said that they are about to have it installed for the entire math department. (I am the computer tech, so that's my job) I was surprised, because it seems to be a little more complicated than the TI-84. And my boys school still says 84 or 89, the 89 for higher maths. When my daughter had this teacher I was talking to, seems like she needed the Nspire for stat, but was fine with the other. But this was a few years ago.

Good luck! Hope you find something!
