phatferd
Do I just get there and plop myself in front of the door or do they usually have places marked off the night before knowing they will have a line? I would hate to get there at 1am for a 5am opening to find out I was sitting in a bad spot. Also what has stopped people from just walking up at 5am and running through the door when they open it? If they just open the doors and its a free for all, why can't I just show up 5 min before and once that door opens I make dash to the door. It would be a crappy thing to do, but what stops people from doing this?
Guest Frieked
Usually you will know where to get in line because you won't be the only one there... Depends on the place. if you are really unsure, find someone to ask. As for people running up right when the door opens, we call them door crashers and there's not much you can do about a-hole's like that. Some places have cops present but a lot don't and you are S.O.L.
juliegirl
Many stores have a specially marked area for the line and uniformed police officers at the door to keep order.
imjustagirl
It depends on the store. For the most part, the 'masses' will let you know EXACLTY where the line is. Follow their directions or they'll eat you alive! Some stores that have smaller lines, like Office Stores, etc, will have the few people that are a real line right outside the door and then a group of less enthusiastic people just kind of huddled waiting for the doors to open...kinda letting the line people know that we all know they go first, and then the rest of us can come in. But...like I said, DONT mess with the people at Walmart, TRU, BB, Circuit City! One thing though about Walmart. At least at ours they often form a line going to only ONE door and then the line for another store (TRU in our case) kind of comes out and passes the other enterance to Walmart. When the store opens, they open both sets of doors so you just have to excuse yourself past the TRU people and you get in right away and have first dibs on that 1/2 of the store :)

Guest all2tired
Chances are you won't be the first person there so just look to see where all the people are. Good luck
saturnboy01
Lets just say that 99% of the people shopping this day have had NO sleep are hungry and will do ANYTHING to get what they want. No one is civil this day until later on in the evening when we are drop dead tired from shopping all day! Driving to the store: ($35 in gas) Waiting on the store to open: ($5 for coffee) Waiting in line at the store: (a voucher for a $149 computer) Running in the store to get the gifts you waited 10hrs for: ($100 ticket for fighting) The night after you have finished shopping on BF: Pricessless! mychza
Most of the places where they know it will be crazy; BB, Walmart, target and toys r us have only one or two doors open and they make a barricade with their shopping carts tied together or something else, so that people who waited in line get to go in first. Then when the line is in, they take away the barricades. A good thing is that toys r us had donuts and coffee for us freezing out in the cold for 2 hours. And beware that the line to check out of BB takes anywhere from 1-2 hours sometimes and runs all around the store and sometimes into the warehouse. Everything is roped or blocked off though so you know where the line is and you can't cut. It helps to have one person get in line and one run around and shop so you don't have to wait as long. sundevils
As they all have said before, assosicates come out about an hour before the store opens and goes down the line with the big ticket items. So at least youll get those items for waiting. Other than that I practice your football techniques and wear protective gear because when those doors open its a survival of the fittest situation!!!! =}
wildtama
In the mall, the doors are usually open before the store does. We went to K-B one year and just lined up outside the store entrance. (The gate was still down.)
ckostyun
The BB's here use tickets, if there's 10 laptops, then they give out 10 tickets. (they go through the line) Nice and simple, and no mad rush to grab a product.
