alimfp Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Can anyone tell what the model number is? I am just trying to find reviews online and what it sold for. I read in another thread that someone was told it was discontinued. But I imagine some sites still says what it retailed for at least. I *think* it says: LS1717P and then it's either a comma and the letter B or a period and the letter B? Seems odd in a model number. Thanks.
Gporter34 Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 I have not been able to find anything on it. I don't think that model is made anymore and it's a one time only deal. I hope to be getting two of those. One for mom and one for myself as a back-up if my Singer ever dies. I only paid 80.00 for it about three or four years ago on BF at WM.
saraczek Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 I am a very avid in sewing. You guys might be better off going to a sewing machine store and seeing if they have any good used ones. Brother sewing machines are not very good. In my personal experience you are better off buying a better brand but used. Many women such as myself will upgrade to a newer model, thus trading in a machine. You can find some very good ones that way. I currently own an Elna and a Bernina and they are wonderful.
MusicMama Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 Would a model such as this be a good choice for a first-time sewer who is not an adult? My 9-year old niece wants a sewing machine for Christmas, was asking for the "Barbie" sewing machine, and my 2 sisters and I would rather get her a nicer model. Any advice would be appreciated.
Gporter34 Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 Well, I sew alot. I sell dolls and quilts at a local store and I used a Brother for about 6 years brfore I got a Singer. It still works but I have used it alot and it's getting old. I will be getting the one at WM as a second. The old one is now used by my girls 12 and 13. For $55.00 I think it's worth it especially for a kid. But I will be using mine alot. Hope that helps.
mrsbmb Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 sounds good to me as i was buying for kids too. Thanks kathy
KBsDarling Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 I have my GreatGrandmas Singer. It actually had to have the "new attachment" added to make it electric at one point LOL But I also have a brothers and a newer knock off brand that I use often. I have never had trouble with any and if its for a beginner/casual users I would push to teh brother(or a singer if one was on sale) Heres why: My Gma is a heavy duty quilter. She owns a very nice very fancy very EXPENSIVE machine. All needles/parts/accessories have to be ordered in. My brother I can get things at any craft store and some walmarts
