bpr Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) Best Buy's Trade-in (now called 'Upgrade') and Save program is back! Trade in ANY (no rentals, copied, porn, or home movies) DVD in it's original case and receive a $5 off coupon towards the purchase of blu-rays $9.99 and up. It starts 1/8 at Best Buy and only in stores. Previous deals have had an assortment of blu-rays to choose from (quite large) but rumor is it may be on on ANY blu-ray $9.99 and higher. I will update as I find out more. The $5 off coupon is better than trying to resell them on Ebay or back to Amazon IMO. I ended up with some $4.99 blus last time and some new releases for $9.99 so there are some deals to be had with this program. Edited January 5, 2012 by bpr
bpr Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Got some more info on this today from another site. The promotion runs 1/08-1/28 The middle of the ad shows the 'Upgrade and Save' logo and says any blu-ray movie 9.99 or higher. Movies listed in the ad:Moneyball combo pack 19.99 w/ couponWhats your Number 14.99 w/ couponKiller Elite 14.99 w/ couponKung Fu Panda 2 19.99 w/ coupon 4.99 w/ couponKnocked up combo packCasinoBraveheartRocky 9.99 w/couponThe Dark KnightScarface Limited EditionDue Date ComboThe Town combo 14.99 w/ coupon (most are combo packs)Green LanternAvatarThe Fighter Harry Potter and the Deathly Gallows part 2Fright Night Friends with Benefits Super 8 Dolphin Tale The Help and the back page mentions it again:Rise of Planet of the ApesMr. Poppers PenguinsWarriorCowboys vs. Aliens These are combo packs that say 12.99 w/ coupon I still am not 100% sure we wont see a list surface of eligible titles but the paper itself says all titles 9.99 and higher.
christina5704 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 ok, so I could take in my son's old Dragon Tales DVD's and they would give me a $5.00 credit for them towards a blu-ray?
bpr Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Yes. Gather some up for now. Some stores will only let you do five a day (I did about 10, lol). Each disc needs to be in it's own original case and each one will get you a $5 coupon to use (ex. trade in 5 DVDs; get 5 coupons). I would plan on only buying movies from the list above until I get an update saying it is any blu-ray. You can not combine coupons; one coupon to be used on one blu-ray.
stiltman Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Can you find out if this will include the 3d blu rays. If it does that would be awesome!!!!
AndreaInNC Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 woohoo .. I have a stack of DVDs getting ready to go to Goodwill. Any idea when the coupons expire?
bpr Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) If it's like the last time you have to use the coupon that day. I like to plan first and only redeem five at a time or so and go buy blu-rays for how ever many I traded. After my first purchase, I go back to the car for more DVDs to trade for movies I may have missed the first time or didn't realise were part of the sale, lol. Edited January 4, 2012 by bpr

Are the 3d blu-rays in the trade off or not? Let me know your experience with bb on this trade in. ThanksI went yesterday and they told me it was good for any blu-ray $9.99 or higher. They took my trade ins, handed me my $5 coupons at customer service and told me to just check out at regular cashiers.

bpr Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Some people are reporting problems with this deal. Make sure you let BB employees/managers know the signs say 'ANY' blu-ray $9.99 or higher. Some movies come up different prices at the register than what is on the rack so you may have to argue that also and get it adjusted. YMMV based on how your BB is interpreting the sale.
klockhart Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I had no problems at my Best Buy yesterday! They said ANY bluray over 9.99 and that included any that were on sale for that price (I believe the article regarding this deal states that it is 5 off of the regular price?) I did 5 yesterday and thought I may wait until this weekend's ad to see which ones will be on sale next week to do some more!
bpr Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 My first haul after coupons: Cowboys & Aliens $12.99 Hook $9.99 Halloween II (original) $9.99 Nine Months (didn't realise it existed) $9.99 Stripes $4.99 Three Amigos $4.99 Couples Retreat $4.99 Wall Street $4.99 BTW, no problems at my BB store .

lishy75 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 How is it working for you as far as the starting price? Are they letting you use the sale price then the $5 off that or is it only off full price items?
bpr Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 How is it working for you as far as the starting price? Are they letting you use the sale price then the $5 off that or is it only off full price items?Every BB is different. I've heard stories tht some will do it one way and others wll do it another. My arguing point that it works on sale items is their own ad. They have two new releases this week (The Ides of March and 50/50) that are $12.99 after the coupon. Meaning the in-store price is $17.99 (most new releases of new movies are not $17.99). It also works that a lot of these prices have been this low before without a coupon. Example: Two weeks ago Green Lantern was $14.99, last week it went to $19.99 but after coupon it was $14.99. This scenerio is good for those who missed the sale the first time I guess but to most it doesn't make sense, lol. Hope that helps.
bpr Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 Here is one not listed. Best Buy has Kung Fu Panda 2 3D BB Exclusive Blu-ray for $19.99 (reg $54.99). If you received a new 3D HDTV for Christmas (or other holiday )this is a great movie to see on it. If you don't have a 3D HDTV it also comes with a regular blu-ray and DVD. This is also online but if you buy it in-store you should be able to get it for $14.99 AFTER coupon! That would make an incredible deal. LINK for those who want to purchase online http://images.bestbuy.com/BestBuy_US/en_US/images/musicmoviegame/pdpimages/3869236.jpg
AndreaInNC Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I did this yesterday and it was super easy. They told me that I could use the coupons any time before they expired, I just had to have the receipt that they gave me when they recycled the movies and issued me the coupons. DD20 wants the Fast & Furious series and they have most of them marked down to 9.99, which makes the blu ray 4.99 with the coupon. My BB has it super easy as they have tags on all the blu rays they have on sale for 9.99. They also have some blu rays on sale for 7.99, and you can't use the coupon for those.
lishy75 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Well one store gave me the $5 off the sale price and another one didn't. The one on L St in Omaha was the good one.
