ClosedAcct Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 As you all know, I bought a house in March that had new carpet put in after the previous owners moved out. As such, it is still fuzzing like crazy but because I'm the only one here full time, my bf is here a couple days a week, I don't create enough traffic alone to speed up the fuzzing. Thus, it has killed my vacuum. The bristles are completely full of carpet fibers and it has locked it down to where it doesn't even rotate any more, which is all fine and good because I've been unable to find bags for it for some time now. So, my questions are these: A) Is there a way to speed up and/or end the carpet fuzzing? Are there any good vacuums for dealing with new carpet?C) Other suggestions? (I read something about a stick vacuum for fuzz but you don't get a deep clean)D) Saw this one in this weeks Best Buy Ad, opinion?: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/BISSELL+-+Cleanview+Helix+HEPA+Bagless+Upright+Vacuum+-+Black/9302006.p?id=1218080756373&skuId=9302006&st=bissell%20bagless&cp=1&lp=2 I'm not sure I have a price range at the moment. I'm exploring all options as I'm tired of my carpet looking dirty and I'm tired of picking up fuzz balls all the time. Thanks for the help!
jendeere Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I LOVE my dyson. I don't think there is anything that I don't like about it and I've had it 4-5 years. I don't really have any advice about the shedding, but you can take the bar off and clean all the crap off of it. Our last 2 vacuums had the bar thing lock completely up and so now with my dyson I have had DH take it off every few times I vacuum to clean it. I don't want to ruin my dyson. I have really long hair and that bar gets full in no time. Is that what you are talking about? The bristly bar thing? Oh, and I didn't know about your new house. Congrats!!
christina5704 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I have to agree with the 2 previous posts... Dyson. We've had ours about 3 years now and I absolutely love it. Our dog sheds like crazy and this has been the best.
nat1jen Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Dyson!! I replaced way too many cheaper vacuums year after year, or I had them in for expensive repairs. I have had my Dyson for 6 yrs.
ISU ME Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) Dyson! I don't think I will ever buy anything else ever again! ETA: I have the DC17 a non-ball one. It sucks up everything. Once it sucked up a slipper sock and just kept going! Edited December 4, 2011 by ISU ME
noehlp Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) Well, I'll toss out one I LOVE. I'm sure I'd love a Dyson, heard great recommendations, but never owned/used one. I have a Bissell PowerForce Bagless vacuum, and I LOVE it! I would recommend it - if you are going for around $50-$60 range. Edited December 4, 2011 by noehlp added link
lishy75 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 I have the Dyson dc25 and dc24 both ball models. Love them both they both work great! I prefer to use the 24 though since it's a lot lighter.
noehlp Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 D) Saw this one in this weeks Best Buy Ad, opinion?: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/BISSELL+-+Cleanview+Helix+HEPA+Bagless+Upright+Vacuum+-+Black/9302006.p?id=1218080756373&skuId=9302006&st=bissell%20bagless&cp=1&lp=2 I just seen this in your post, sorry. My friend has one that I think is last years model to that Bissell Helix - I love it (yep I've vacuumed her floors!). She seems to love it also.
scrabbler Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 I just bought an lg compactor from best buy....love it!
ClosedAcct Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 Thanks for all the recommendations. I'd love to get a Dyson but after looking around and doing some math, I can't afford it til tax time. Guess I will continue with my tape shoes until then :)
AndreaInNC Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Too bad I didn't see this yesterday. Best Buy had a Dyson for $199.
