starbeck96 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 I was considering getting this for my teenage boys. I know that it is fine for browsing the web and schoolwork. Do you think I will have any trouble with YouTube playing? My boys like youtube and my husband may use it occassionaly also.
stationchief Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 That $198 laptop from Walmart should surf the internet, write homework documents, and play Youtube videos fine. It just won't do much else than that. Think of it as an oversized, slightly-overhauled netbook.
ourhappyfamily4 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Would it play learning games just fine on the net?

I have also bought laptops for 199 in years past, but it has always been the Intel processor. I've never had a computer/laptop with AMD so I was just a little concerned. We went to another Walmart last night and they had a laptop for 248.00. I really think that this was the laptop that is going to be on sale BF for 199. I believe it had the same specs.

Never have any problems, and dollar for dollar, AMD delivers more processing bang for the buck.
racerfan Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Can anyone help me out. I am looking for a laptop for DD13 to research for school, Facebook (messaging no games really), emails, type up papers(already have Microsoft Student) She is in 8th grade and her laptop has started running really hot and shutting down. She is not like her brother and will be doing Engineering next year in HS, she is thinking of maybe doing a photography class as an elective. Which one of these would be ok for her. The first one is at Best Buy now in their guarantee in stock promotion for $269 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+Satellite+Laptop+/+AMD+E-Series+Processor+/+15.6%26%2334%3B+Display+/+4GB+Memory+-+Black/3438577.p?id=1218402124648&skuId=3438577&st=toshiba%20laptop&cp=1&lp=1 In the Best Buy Black Friday ad there are 3 laptops I am looking at also. The Samsung for $299, The Gateway (secret price) and the 17inch Toshiba for $349. Thank you so much, I most likely will be at BB on BF since there are several other items I would like to get and if I cant online will have to be on line early.
tokanm Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 I am typing this on the BB $296 one now It seems really solid and fast. The upside is although it is more $$, it is guaranteed to be available now, free shipping. No waiting in line all night either with the chance you may not get one.

Now it's fine and doesn't get so hot. Just a thought to get it to last until you pick up a new one.

DH will be taking it down with him to use to watch movies, stream Amazon, Netflix, Hulu etc. When it happened to my computer it took a year before the harddrive finally died. It happens to be a AMD processor which I am told runs hot to begin with. She has a fan hooked up to hit also.
tank27 Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 As long as your not playing high graphic games or doing a lot of computer intensive work... It will work just fine.
ourhappyfamily4 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 thanks, i think we will be trying to get one of these at walmart this yr.
jellybean051901 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 My daughter stepped on my laptop yesterday so now I need to stand in line BF for a new one. Which would be better for going online and uploading photos. I am trying to decided between the 199 and 249 ones at WM. I also so someone posted about a toshiba at best buy now. I don;t know which I should get
starbeck96 Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Thanks everyone for your comments. I think I will go ahead and get the laptop for 199 at Walmart. I believe that it will be fine for what they will be using it for.
homedirt Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Does anyone know if it has a CD ROM?Yes it has a cdrom as far as I know all laptops have cdrom, but most if not all netbooks dont
HankMonk Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 This laptop was a "door buster in store only " and NOT available on line at any price....but TODAY (Nov 26) Walmart web site shows "Available in store only, price may vary by store". In my area, about half the local Walmarts show as in stock. My guess is, employees have them set aside for friends but if a manager see the item as "in stock" they will find it for you. Unknown at what price. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Compaq-15.6-250GB-CQ57-229WM/16662274 Note price has been deleted and you need a zip code to see if available

Lily12 Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 hmmm. The 198 one I thought was a Persario, 2G/250 HD? . The 248 is HP with a 3G/ 320 HD?? Maybe the walmarts still had some of the 248? I got one @ that price and was the better memory HP. ( think they are the same Co. anyway) Also probably different per store?
