mtjoycol
I just got back from my local TRU... I was one of the first people there. We live in the dark ages here and our TRU doesn't open until 12 on Sunday's. Anyway, I was there for the free Bratz Boom Box. I went right to electronics. I figure grab the free boom box then get the bratz toys. I was the first one in electronics and guess what??? Only TWO free boxes on the shelf. I got mine then the man put it behind the counter while I ran to get my 60.00 worth of bratz, since you have to pay for the boom box in electronics so everything needed to be rung up there. When I got back the second boom box was gone. The add says no rainchecks. While supplies last.. I asked the man if they had more and he said.. "NOPE what we had on the shelf is what we had." I couldn't believe they only had TWO boom BOXES! Talk about not having the "supplies"! I feel like they bait the people to come in and then not have the "free item". What a joke. We only have one toys r us in about a 25 mile radius. I'm sure there will be alot of mad people today. You would think if TRU was running a promotion they would have more than two boom boxes on hand! I'm glad I made sure I was there early! They had tons of Pooh's, but no one was getting them as of yet.

mtjoycol
If you go into the store you only have to spend 60.00 to get the free boom box. Online it's 75.00 plus there is no free shipping. When I put it all in my cart this morning the shipping alone was an additional 11.00. So if you get it online it is not a great deal. Think about it... You have to spend an additional 15.00 than in store, then pay the 11.00 shipping. Your saving about 10.00. I'm just glad I got it!
vonnyb
That's terrible that they would have such a limited supply. You are very fortunate you got one.

curlyk
We had a heck of a time today at TRU as well. We went in for the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe. It was $39.99 but if you bought it, you got the Little Tikes Electric Sounds Gas Pumper free, which made it a good deal. We had thought about purchasing the gas pumper with the coupe, so when I saw this deal, I figured we couldn't pass it up. The kids where we live love to pretend to fill up, so we figured it would be fun for them to have. First of all we get there, and they don't have any of the "girly" cozy coupes out, which is what we wanted because a neighbor has the "boy" one and we figured they wouldn't get mixed up this way. We FINALLY managed to hunt down a TRU employee and ask him if they have any. He goes and looks and eventually brings one out. We ask where the free gas pumper is and he says he will have to go look. After what seemed like forever, he finally comes back and says they are still looking for it. Eventually he comes back after even longer and says "the computer says we have 8, but we can't find them". I guess I could call another store or you could come back later. The deal is while supplies last, no rain checks. We tell him to call another store. We have now been in the store for an hour. We waited some more for him to call another store, and finally asked what was up because we were sick of waiting. He says "Oh, I found someone who knows where they are, we'll be bringing one out for you." We did finally get it, but only after waiting for over an hour. I think they were hoping we would just give up and buy the coupe without it. My thought was, the deal was only good with the free pumper, because the coupe wasn't on sale. We also saw that they had very limited quantities of toys they had advertised for good deals. If they are going to have their "biggest sale of the year", they need to be ready. They need to have supplies, and they need to have them out where you can find them. This is why we don't shop at TRU much, and probably why they have been in financial trouble. kelliedn
I've noticed this a LOT at TRU-I have found if you see a deal you want there, you better get there the first day and you better get there early or you aren't going to get it.
okwdvc
I have to say we had the total opposite experience at our TRU. They had tons of the Bratz boom boxes in stock. Every item we wanted was in stock and there seemed to be plenty. There were a couple items we weren't certain we wanted to buy and so we passed. I felt very comfortable that they would have them in stock later in the week if we decide to get them. I guess it all depends on the store. Now, I will say their employees at our store are not at all helpful. I wanted to try one of their laptops they had on display but the "try now" button was broken. I asked an employee if there was anything we could do (open up another box, fix the display one, etc). He says "beats me" and walks away! So much for customer service. We decided to open a new box and hook it up ourselves :-) Lisa
mugs
Isn't there a website somewhere about TRU's poor business practices?
jessieloo
I have never had great luck with sales or employees at TRU, which is why I do not shop there often, unless it's for something very specific.
outnumbered
Wow, I always have a great experience at my TRU. They are always helpful and if something isn't in stock they do a good job of letting me know when they're expecting more in, having me call to check on x day, holding one for me sometimes, etc. They have a severe lack of employees throughout the store, but the people at the customer service desk always find someone quickly for me if I need assistance. I got some great shopping done there today. Got the Dora's talking house for $45 ($50 with a $5 off coupon), picked up a few other things which bumped my total up to the $75 needed for the gift card, got that, loaded up the van with what I bought, went back inside and got the easel I was after, used the gift card and then another $5 coupon on that...shoot, I think I did pretty good. Not quite as good as the 20% off sale prices I got online recently, but I was limited to toys offering free shipping when I did that. I picked up all the non-free-shipping stuff I wanted today and made out pretty well. Done with Christmas shopping for my kids now. Woohoo!
