elena_398 Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 When you do put up your christmas tree, do you use candy canes? Its a big argument in my house as my husband hates them. He says its makes it look stupid! I love it and so does the kids. Of course my dog does too so the bottom can't have any! My friend puts the traditional cranberries etc on hers. Do you use the regular bulbs or go all out on your trees with bows etc. I would love some ideas to decorate different this year. I also use tinsle which also drives my husband nuts. He hates tinsle. Especially the clean up!
cami_reardon Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 We used to, but not any more. We had a very curious cat that figured out they tasted pretty good one year. It ended up being pretty sad because he got some of the celophane stuck in his throat...well, I won't expand, but it will never happen again as long as I have cats. But it is nice to do when you can. I should say that we do not use tinsel or garlance any more either (the stringy shiny kind).
bayhaysay Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 We use candy canes but after about a week there aren't any left on the bottom half.(I have short kids.) No tinsle around here, that stuff gets EVERYWHERE!
Tracy72 Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 I dont do candy canes...I do bows....I do beads also.I absolutely hate tinsle too...lol....sorry...lol....
elena_398 Posted October 30, 2005 Author Posted October 30, 2005 Most people think Im gross, but I love to buy an extra box of candy canes and store them for the following year. LOL. They get real soft and they are like peppermint chews. My husband gags when I open them and start munching. God I hope Im not the only one. Haha
Gporter34 Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 I've done that, too!lol I don't use the store bought tinsel anymore, it was just too messy to clean up. I have made some raggedy garland that I am going to use this year. I also changed my tree topper. I am working on one that is a raggedy angel hugging the top of the tree. She is coming along pretty good.
elena_398 Posted October 30, 2005 Author Posted October 30, 2005 I need to find a cute tree topper. I hope to find one on BF. Christmas stuff is always on sale then. My top of the tree will have to be bare until I get it then
minendo Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Usually during Thanksgiving weekend, but this year we will be out of town so it will be a bit delayed. Probably the weekend after or so.
Tracy72 Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 I always had this sickly little angel on top of my tree....then for this yr I got a new tree and new big angel...I cant wait to put it up...lol.
Gator Pam Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 We have a gorgeous St. Nickalaus tree topper made of cloth over a large cardboard cone. I use glass candy canes. Gives me the look without being tempting to anyone. We use a real tree, so I don't hve to pick it off. I love the look of tinsel, and apply it slowly one strand at a time for a filigree look. But, I'm particular about my tinsel. Some brands are cut way too wide.
SuperMommy Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 I love my grandmother's tree. It has only red/burgandy bows, clear glass ornaments, and white lights. It is very elegant. I would love to have my tree like that. But we have a 3 year old and one on the way so as long as we have smaller children we are going to keep it very colorful and full of everything that we can find. It's just sort of a mish-mash of ornaments. But I think kids love all those bright colors and pretty ornaments. So we'll keep it like that as long as we have small children in the house and then as they get older/ move out of the house then we can have that elegant tree.
alimfp Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 We used too but no longer, no. The kids will eat 'em.
erh12275 Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Some years I do...some I don't. I HATE peppermint so if I do...it's the flavored ones.
