Note --

You must use an Amazon Visa to get $20 off instantly...

Incorrect.

The $20.00 Amazon Visa discount is completely separate from this current promotion. The current price (as of 10/26) for all Amazon customers is $54.99. Less 5% and the $15.00 mail-in rebate yields $37.24.

One can however opt for the Amazon Visa promotion in addition to the above deal, which should net an end result of $18.24 for the WRT54G.

Is this working for others??

I get " Important Message

when trying to enter the promo code to get the extar 5% off. :(

Well going through the customer appreciate page, and selecting "networking products" it's the top item in the list. I don't know what the problem is. I told someone else here about it, and they couldn't either. Think I'm going to place the order, and then email customer service for the 5% off.

Edit -

I did get $1 promotional discount (leftover from burgerking maybe) and the a9.com discount.

Item(s) Subtotal: $54.99

Shipping & Handling: $6.76

Super Saver Discount: $-6.76

Promotional Certificate: $-1.00

-----

Total Before Tax: $53.99

Estimated Tax: $0.00

Total: $53.99

Estimated Instant Reward: $-0.85

-----

Grand Total: $53.14

I emailed them, hopefully csr will fix it and deduct the 2.75 off of there too. $53.14 - 2.75 (fix hopefully) - $15 MIR = $35.39 net

Edit2 -

They emailed back... They issued a 2.75 refund to the credit card I used.

I stand corrected as stated above..

I did the same.. they are crediting me $2.75.

You think they would fix the website so people wouldnt have to contact them?

You would think, but they make an additional $2.75 from people not willing to contact them. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileys/awcrap.gif

And lose a lot of "good will" for both those that do and don't... People don't like pricing errors, unless it's in thier favor. Take any of the FW and AT threads about people going to sue when a big one happens.

One time when I ran the toy store during my college days, I had a cashier call me about a stuffed animal she knew was priced wrong. I went up, and a $100+ animal had a $19.99 sticker on it. We staple the prices to the loop tags so they wouldn't fall off and this one was obviously removed and replaced. The "customer" was screaming and arms flailing about... "We have to sell it at that." and such garbage (btw, no we don't...) I took them to the back, backed up the tape from that aisle's camera and had them arrested when it showed them "re-pricing" the toy - theft by fraud.

When I was in hgh school, I drove a bunch of my friends down to 3rd Street Jazz and Rock (a record store in Philly). One of my friends wanted some album but didn't want to pay the higher import price for it. I wasn't aware of it before checkout, but he relabelled it with a price sticker from another album.

When we went through the checkout, the cashier got on the microphone and over the loudspeaker throughout the entire store (2 floors!) you heard a booming: "Hey, it's pick your own price day at 3rd Street Jazz and Rock!" My friend turned three shades of red.

Not one of his prouder momemts, but it sure was funny at the time. We were dumb highschool kids back then, and he did buy it for the "real" price as I recall.

What kinds of things can you do with the 3rd party firmwares? I've had this for awhile now without any problems, I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on anything!

He's lucky that all they did. If they "customers" hadn't been so insistent, loud, obnoxious, and the needle that broke the camel's proverbial back, threatening to sue, I would have just thrown them out. Instead they got a free ride to sherrif's lockup, booked and released on OR until the trial date. Oh and they were barred from the mall from that point on... if they came back it was criminal tresspassing. That mall had it's own security that once you were caught trying to rip one store off, they tried to make sure it didn't happen again or at least made worse if you were caugt a 2nd time.

i got mine... Unfortunately it's the new V5... It does NOT run Linux, and cannot use any of the 3rd party firmware. It'll be sold off, traded, or something - it's of no use to me.

We have this one and I wish I could say my review would be good.. but ours drops our settings constantly. DH's PC is supposed to be the main one, but my laptop takes over all of the time, thus losing our settings. No reason why it happens, just does.

Linksys took some prodding from us to acknowledge this was a problem for *some* people (not many, but it does happen with some of their routers they said.. not enough for a recall though). They didn't offer anything though. We are getting a new one (different model at least) sometime.

One of my particularly favorite features is the ability to run the WRT54G in client or WDS mode.

Rather than attempt to offer an explanation in technical terms, I drafted up this simple diagram (courtesy of Visio) quite a while back:

Perhaps you could explain what is meant by this statement? None of the router's settings should be terribly machine specific.

Although this isn't the technical forum per se, perhaps we could be a bit more helpful than Linksys support.

Well I ebay'ed and and got my money back...

As to the above about the laptop taking over, I wondered about that too. Unless they are port forwarding so they can get to a specific machine from outside. But then it just sounds like they'd need to setup a static IP or commit an DHCP address to a specific MAC address.
