mrsbmb Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 you could have your husband sneak in the house and hijack her picture albums while you have her out. then make copys of the pictures you might find useful to make a nice scrap book for her with the copies. we did this for my mother once making a this is your life type thing for her and my father on their anniversary. she loved it. the main thing is to get the original pics back into the album and back to her. kathy
phins_jazy Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 i've got a hard to buy for person on my list too. Last year I made her a blanket and embroidered tigger on it as i was told she liked tigger. i was over at her house one day later on in the year and found it in the dogs bed. i dunno what to get her this year. probably a gift cert to somewhere.
best4less Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 My sister is very hard to buy for. Just about the only thing she likes is jewelery and even at that, only the super expensive stuff. Last year I was pretty creative as she enjoys going to the casino's and has been to Vegas more times then I can count. I bought this adorable Vegas themed purse off ebay, filled it with fake shredded money, gold chocolate coins, one of those ceramic jar banks that had "Slot Fund" written across it (I also put a few dollars worth of quarters in the jar), the Hallmark Frank Sinatra Vegas ornament that plays "luck be a lady", a $25 gift card to Foxwoods casino, some scratch tickets and the Vegas Vacation DVD. It was a big hit! This year however, I am clueless as to what to get her

I'm not sure where to get them but they're about a foot and a half high. Or what about some lottery tickets? I think as a joke I'm gonna get my dad and stepmom some of those fake lottery tickets at Spencers that each one wins like $10,000. They look completely real!! Or if she's into card games you could get her one of those Texas Hold Em poker sets (I love texas hold em).
pumpkin255violet Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I like the spa idea, that was my first thought until I saw it posted by somebody else. So now I have to think of something else LOLHow about getting pictures of her and the family from as far into the past until present and have it made into a video or dvd with music (the kind she likes if you know it) I can pretty much garuantee that she'll get teary eyed maybe not in front of you but she will and she'll watch it all the time just remembering her past. just a thoughtMy mom did this for my grandparents anniversary and they loved it... EVERYONE ended up crying:D ;n

That way she could use it at the store of her choice. Or you could get her one of those American Express GCs that she could use anywhere. I don't tend to like to give GCs but I LOVE to get them. That way I can choose what I want. It takes the guessing out of it.
SuperMommy Posted October 27, 2005 Author Posted October 27, 2005 You know, I got something for myself last year and got one for a few other people and I as well as everyone loved it!! It was one of those ceramic tart burners. Any good candle store should have them. The burner which you can get plain ones or mine is a beach scene cost anywhere from $10-$20. And you buy these "tarts" for them. They are kind of like small candles but you put them in the top of the burner and put a tealight candle in the bottom it melts the whole "tart" releasing more fragrance than regular candles usually do! They're very pretty and smell very good. And they can buy replacement tarts later on. And you can get out for less than $20 or more depending on how much you want to spend.
copados1993 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 That's one of the best things! I keep one in my kitchen.
jlgrafix Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Ok, I know we all have that one person that is just impossible to buy for... I feel your pain. My father-in-law is the same way. Last year I thought I had the most perfect gift. While over there for a visit the converstion got around to about how his dad always had a pocket knife and it was a grandpa thing to always have one. Well he was a grandpa for the first time and I found a real nice pocket knife and had it engraved... he didn't even seem to care when he opened it and I've never seen him carry it either. I spent hours looking for the perfect knife and it wasn't a cheap one either. Oh well, I have given up trying to get him great gifts. After all, my husband always seems to get a gift card and shirt from them. This year I am getting one of those digitial frames and that way they can always have new pics of the kids displayed. Good luck!Jen
baraginfinder Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 My brother is someone who is never happy with what he gets as a gift. He sulks, and sometimes he even gets angry. He never buys any presents for family members anyway. Although he buys presents for friends. Two years ago I had enough. I am not going to waste my energy and my money on someone who doesn't appreciate it. I told him he wouldn't get a gift from me ever again. I would buy him a card but he won't read it so he gets nothing from me. It's too bad but oh well.
