noehlp Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 So, Magazines.com sent me $10 to spend (or I can cash out, but I'm thinking otherwise). I have 3 days to use this, but I need help! (btw, check your own emails out, you may have gotten one too, just received the email within the hour) Here's my two choices:Teen VogueSeventeenAny opinions on either? This would be for my daughter who is 15 (will be 16 in March). However, age is just a number and her real mentality is more like 12 or 13, literally. With that said, which would be best for her? I do NOT want a magazine that talks all about sex. Nor one that pushes the 'skinny image' too much. You can even just 'vote' for which you would think is more appropriate for her. Help please.
dmtiern Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 We get both - (DD19 & DD16)We vote a big fat NO to Teen Vogue. It's mostly ads & lots of skinny fashion models. I consider it useless & neither of my girls likes it. DD16 just said YES to Seventeen, she says there are stories, quizzes, outfit suggestions...Personally, I'd cash out & buy the magazine through Tanga magazines...we only pay $3-4 for 1 year when it gets offered on their DOD
racerfan Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I got the email also. DD is only 12 so I think Seventeen is too old for her still. I am looking at Twist and J-14 for her. Are there any other suggestions??
nat1jen Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Don't even bother with Teen Vogue. Both of my girls like Seventeen, and one of my DD's is 13!

Seventeen is the better magazine (and more appropriate as well).
my2kidsmom Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 We get Seventeen. I think they do a great job with promoting a healthy body image. My DD is 12 so I am careful to pre-read and edit (tear out) inappropriate articles....you know...like "how to be a hot kisser" and other articles of a similar nature. Everything else gets a thumbs up!
Backstagemom Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 My teenager loves Seventeen magazine. She had vogue and thought it was useless. Lots of freebies for the teens for products in the magazine too.,
peppysfireball Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I don't censor my kids reading material. THey can read it in the library at school . THe girls think it's funny to read stuff about kissing, etc. It's a normal healthy attitude. My daughter read Seventeen for years.
Stowasser Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 seventeen, my 15 yr old loves it. She likes looking at the fashions they put together, freebies and articles. She had teen vogue and did nothing for her, we even got it free and she didn't want it again
Danascraps Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Try Girl's Life. My almost 14 year old loves it!
noehlp Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Hmm... Looks like Seventeen may be the one. I will look at the other suggestions in the thread also. Thanks everyone! :)
Melissa Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Neither one is appropriate in my opinion. Try Discovery Girls.
