jenmovdob
My Dad is super impossible to shop for. He's young, only late 40's. He doesn't like getting gift cards, he thinks they're impersonal. He's not a gadget guy. I usually think it's great that he's such a minimalist, but it makes the shopping season hard. Anyone know anyone like this? Any ideas for me. Elmck
Some things I have gotten my dad the past few years He is a retired Marine, so I got a throw, a chair and a scrapbook album for his pictures with the Marine corp emblem on them. Coveralls for working on the car and one of those things that roll under the car and a magnetic pick up tool Wireless mouse and keyboard I would really like to get him a blue ray player and some movies this year but it will depend on the price. He wants a ladder.
jenmovdob
Someone just mentioned to me a Netflix subscription. I'm wondering if he'll think of it as the same as a gift card?
Jenh1973
I have one of these dads too. I got him a hard cover book printed of the grand kinds (I think it was from fish.com) Razor, his just happened to break near x-mas. I look for things that are looking worn out too. Kibit13
Micro RC helicopter from Think Geek - my dad and I each got one 2 years ago and we use them every Christmas.Kohl's usually has the "good ones" as well. My dad loves the micro helicopters too. Our dog, not so much! I wish we could find one that he could use outside. I'm getting my Dad a 6qt Presto Pressure Cooker for Christmas. He has been wanting one for a couple of years. I am also putting a few bags of dried beans in his stocking! Does your Dad work outside at all? I saw some fleece or flannel lined LL Bean jeans. (Woolrich makes them too) I am getting a pair for when I walk my dog in our frigid winter temps. I am looking at them for my Dad too. LL Bean Fleece Lined Jeans $49.95 Free shipping. No minimum. hopeky94
If you hang out with him or look around the house and find out that something he's wanting and hasn't gotten for himself is because he can't find it in stores-- get creative! There are catalogs and places online that sell reproductions of stuff from decades gone by (Old Vermont Country Store is one I get a catalog from). Or if it's something that you think could be reproduced, look for someone local who might be able to make one... or try your hand at DIY! :) My example: my dad has trouble with buttons, so when we ran across some flannel shirts with Velcro closures (and buttons on the outside to look like the button-up style), we bought a couple... never imagining we wouldn't be able to find them again! When those 2 shirts started to wear out, I searched everywhere for more, then finally decided to make one myself! I bought a regular flannel shirt, removed all the buttons and sewed them to the outside (covering the button holes), then sewed Velcro pieces where each button had been. In hindsight, I made a few beginner's mistakes (like getting Velcro with the sticky glue side- VERY hard to sew thru- bruised my fingertips, LOL), but he was much happier with that and all the work I put into it than he would have been with a giftcard or another polo shirt! Another idea (from something I got for my dad's birthday): something custom-made by a local person/business. A local man here makes custom cut-metal pieces (like signs, wall hangings, even furniture), so I had a metal yard sign made with a fish at the top and his last name at the bottom (all laser-cut with lots of neat details), attached to long metal stakes so he can put it in the ground outside his camper when he goes fishing for 3 months this winter. A coworker of mine is having a local leather shop make a new wallet for her daughter, designed just like hers that her daughter admires but isn't available at stores around here. Hope this helps-- good luck! :)
AndreaInNC
My stepdad is impossible to buy for because he just buys what he needs when he needs it. Sister and I were set to replace his grill because he said it was getting old then BAM he buys himself one! ugh
mysschevous
This year I am buying my dad a ticket on a cruise ship. :) He has never been on one. So his presents for the year, fathers day, christmas and birthday is his cruise passage. I am also including his wife on the cruise. He's extra excited that we will be on the same cruise, because he moved to Florida last year and hasn't spent much time with the kids. :)
