LOL. Last year I posted this thread and it got bounced around for a while.

So... I only see netbooks in the $250 range... just like last year. I wonder if any retailer will be bold enough to offer a deep discounted netbook this year?

If I could get one in the $100 - 150 range... my 8 year old daughter is sooooo getting one.

What do you guys think?

Yes this is. Why you ask? Cause DH's work just got all new laptops and they sold the old ones auction style. We hemmed. We Hawwed. We got the aflac check. We pulled the trigger. Have a used laptop stashed for DD as her big gift. We paid 125$ for it. So of COURSE there will be a better deal on a new one. We only planned to get to her a netbook but this came up and we just didnt want to pass it up and then spend 200$ on a netbook. So when all the GD kids are getting 99$ netbooks you can tell them it wasnt Santa or mom that made it possible but KBsDarling for being impatient LOL

I think I've seen a few sales for around that much throughout year so BF should at least match it. I'm still considering netbook/laptop and while I don't need much don't like limits of netbook yet at the same time don't want to pay for a laptop.

$99 netbooks are definitely possible, although the specs probably won't be great. we've posted deals on the site in the past for netbooks around that price. just a week or two ago we had a refurbished model for $89.

but those cheaper models usually have smaller screens (7" typically), very small amounts of ram/storage and either linux or windows ce for the operating system.

Hmm... well.. then I am gonna hope for a "beefier" netbook for $150ish... either way... I am gonna rip Windows off the think and put Jolicloud onto it.

It is a simplistic Linux based OS designed for Netbooks. Most of the apps are cloud based. Good for my daughter.

I am going to say maybe as I have noticed netbooks for 12000 yen here new. I am also going to predict HD camcorders will be cheaper than expected as well. Also 3D TVs as the prices here are getting decent.

I believe it is the year! We we're hoping for it last year and only got a few stores that went down to $150 and that horrid one from Kmart for $100. The difference this year is the iPad, and other tablet PC's in the works, are dragging down netbook sales. Hopefully this is good for us. If they don't have any netbooks in the $100-120 range for BF keep your eye out because the market for netbooks might go so low that they stop making them. I predict an Acer with an Atom processor and Windows 7 Starter for about $120. Hopefully not at just Best Buy because I won't camp out for 2 days for any deal! ;)

The typical XP netbook that runs about $250 has gone down in sale prices to $200, and even $150 so far this year at places like Target. With the popularity of such netbooks growing, I think it's definitey possible to see a good one somewhere in the $100-200 range for BF. I'm hopeful we'll see at least one as a doorbuster and drop to the $99 range, most likely with rebates attached to get it that low. And I seriously doubt netbooks will be goin' away anytime soon. There are some things they can still do that iPads and tablet PC can't.

My prediction for BF: An Atom processor nnetbook with either Windows XP Home or Windows 7 Starter for $99 after -$50 mail-in rebae and -$50 gotta-send-it-in-a special-way rebate. That's what they usually gotta do to get it that low.

If not $99, very close to it. I was lucky last BF...picked up a very nice one (online) from Best Buy for about $170, so they'll probably drop at least $50 this year.

Kmart last year did some cheap netbook, but it was wince lol. :cheesy:

I myself am hoping to snag a ion 2 netbook. But I believe im dreaming becuase theres barely any ion 2 netbooks right now as it is. Soo sigh.

If that one is going to be on sale now then I KNOW there will be something better coming! Try to stay away from Windows CE machines, it's pretty much the same thing that's in Windows cell phones. Wait for one that has Windows XP or 7 starter and an Atom processor. Don't worry they will be out there! ;)

Keep in mind there are major differences with name brand netbooks that usually run $200-300 and these 'pocket organizers', as I affectionately call 'em, with a generic name that run $100 or less. The cheap mini netbooks with either Windows CE (the one from 6th Avenue Electronics) or Google OS will have wifi and will get'cha on the net and email, but don't expect to do anythin' with Adobe Flash (Youtube, online games, etc), install any programs, nor use a webcam/mic. Only full blown netbooks will allow ya to do all that.

But the popularity of these mini netbooks for around $100 leads me to believe may see one or two as a doorbuster for even cheaper. It'll be interesting to see just how low these things can go.

I am hoping they will be that cheap. I really want one! Can you do other things other than internet? Can you get microsoft office on them? I didnt know if it was just like having a laptop. :)

Probably not impossible but I might think that large software files like Office Suite would really slow the machine down to a crawl. Personally I wouldn't try to load software like that or Photoshop or anything else large. Just compare the memory between netbooks and laptops or even desktops and you will see the difference.

On the regular netbooks (Window XP/7 starter) you sure can. I'd actually recommend OpenOffice as it's less resource hungry. As for the mini netbooks (Windows CE/Google/Android OS) the answer is no. Perhaps Google docs as it's internet based, but ya can't install any software on those.

Im looking for a netbook for my dd8 that she can basically play educational games on, practicing writing( some sort of word program maybe). What would be a good netbook for that sort of thing? Would the cvs 99 one be good? Thanks..I know nothing about this stuff?

Not unless the educational games are played via the internet without any sort of Flash content required. Although it does come with some sort of Office type program to write with. Your best bet would probably be to get a regular netbook (one with an Atom processor and Windows XP or 7 starter). They usually run about twice as much as the $99 cheapo's, but they're more worth it. That way the dd can do homework, educational games, and even use the webcam to yap with friends on most models.

Unless you really need it NOW, I wouldn't bother. There will be way better netbooks on BF for around the same amount of money.

Bought one last night after i found a $4 off coupon. Wow!! I would advise a purchase to anyone. I have 2 other netbooks with windows xp and i like this unit. It's size is just right. it is easier to travel with and is fast on the web, and youtube played with no problems. I plan on picking up another unit to keep as a spare.
