Thanks everyone...I went used on craigslist. I got a 3 yr old whirlpool for $65.00, super capacity. I love it.
laffnatu Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Some free advice if you buy a frontload washer..... Make sure the HOT and COLD water valves are turned on even if you only use cold water. I had trouble with my washer for a few weeks and finally got a repairman to the house. It cost me $69 for him to turn my hot water valve on. He said even if I only use cold water that the washer registers the cold water as a certain temp. If it's not the correct temp, hot water will run also. It was an expensive lesson and I really missed my washer. I hate going to the laundromat. My son-in-law told me he would have turned the valve for $50. LOL.
rachealb Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I tried to post this morning but I dont know where it went (??I probably put it in the wrong thread! ) Anyway, Home Depot ad front page today has washers on sale, regular and front load
Ripn Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 If you do buy a front load, remember to leave the door open between loads to allow it to dry out. Also, don't waste your money on the HE detergent, just use 1/3 to 1/2 the normal amount.

supershopper1 Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 If your buying fom Homedepot or Lowes make sure you go to the post office and get a moving envelope. There is a 10% off coupon inside both will honor.
rogueleader Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I too have had good experiences buying used off of Craigslist (dryer). If you do buy new don't forget there is a government tax rebate program going on right now on energy efficient appliances.

Rockfordmom Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 ask around and mention it to everyone you know, ours broke and one of my girlfriends gave me one that had been sitting in her basement because she had gotten a new one but the old one still worked check the ads in the newspaper, my son & his girlfriend found a cheap one for their apartment
jadedmomof2 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Yep, we asked around to relatives, and one of my DH's cousins had one sitting in her basement, she had just upgraded to a front loading set, but since the old washer still worked she didn't want it to be trashed. So, we got it.
jbrawn26 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 i was going to say craigslist also try freecycle sometimes people get new and the old one is good yet btw we are neighbors west deptford hereI gave away a dryer a few months ago that had nothing wrong with it, we had the circut breaker trip and reset it.. then somehow before I got the dryer back on it tripped again so we thought the dryer was dead and bought a new one... installed the new one, didn't work.. realized the breaker was tripped and the original was fine lol. Oh well I got a new set out of it and someone on freecycle got a perfectly good dryer for free.
jeninpa Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I don't think I could ever own a front load after hearing that story of the little girl being killed in one. It was so sad & now every time I even see one I think of her!

tia1970 Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I'm searching for a washer that's big enough to accomodate my growing family (4 kids!). Is frontload washer really better than top load? I need something big and energy star certified. I heard it's good check tax free holiday to purchase in your state.
