teebee Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Ok, my laptop is going out on me and I figured I better get one now. You guys know so much about this stuff I thought I would get your suggestions. By the way, my daughter loves her asus netbook that Santa brought for Christmas, thanks to your suggestions. Anyway, I'm wanting a 15" (the one I have now is just too big), and I would like to stay in the $500 range. Mostly all I do is check email, surf the web and play farmville. I do have about 4000 songs for my ipod too. So, can you guys recommend a laptop? Thanks in advance for your help.
noehlp Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Are you wanting any specific software installed on it already? (like MS Office/etc) Also, do you prefer a particular brand? (like Dell, HP, etc)
teebee Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 no particular brand. i guess i really don't need any specific software
Just_Jill Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 My old toshiba just failed as well. Dell outlet has some good buys, my replacement has window 7, 4 gig of ram, 500 gig hard drive, 9 cell battery, free shipping, all under 550. http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh
teebee Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 I would really like one with good battery life too, any other suggestions?

teebee Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 I'm wanting a 15" laptop. My daughter got a netbook for Christmas and I just don't think I could get used to one that small. My laptop I use now (it could die anyday) has a 17" screen, I like the large one but, it's so bulky moving it around, I think anything under 15" would kill my eyes. I really need to try and find something soon, I know my dell won't last much longer. Battery life is really important too. Any other suggestions?
teebee Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 Wow, so many people have read this thread but, nobody has any other suggestions??? I guess I will look somewhere else for help, oh well. I guess one of the moderators can go ahead and close this thread.
freesia39 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 The laptop deals haven't been blazing. I just bought a 17.3" laptop from Staples for $650 and I'm enjoying it. Any laptop you find from 400-500 dollars will do everything you need, since you aren't a "power" user. Just try to search for one that has about a 320gb hard drive. I wouldn't buy an Acer, so stick to the HP/Dell/Toshiba of the world. I don't recommend Sony laptops either, they tend to fail a lot in my experience. If you find any laptops, try to match the specs up against each other and see what's the better deal.

pianoman Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 We have always had a great experiences with our Dell computers.
pirologists Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I just bought an hp 17 in laptop from Sam's Club. Had Windows Vista which I upgraded. Out of box & missing remote manual & cables but I got it for $301 + tax. Perfect for me. If you're a Sam's club member go to the service desk and ask what laptops they have out of box. You can find GREAT deals that way not only on laptops but cameras end even Ipods.
