A pair of our friends want for nothing and have invited us out to stay with them in Escondido (San Diego area) on a fairly regular basis over the years. In addition to taking them out to dinner at least once, we also started buying them "Splashy" ceramic pieces of art/serving platters... I'd avoid paintings since she is a painter, but certainly wood crafts, stone, metal, ceramics, etc. are appropriate. Every state has a "funky art" shop or group of shops -- start there! You can get some nice crafts for $50. Bonus: the recipient really have no firm idea of what you spent vs. a $50 gift card for a restaurant or something with a known cost, like a Wii game. Will have to do some checking around on shipping wine to GA I know when we were on vacation and went to a Winery in OR they couldnt ship any to us here in MT. They choose their pieces, paint them, and then they glaze and fire them. Color Me Mine is the one we go to here, but of course, there are none in GA. Another idea for the calender is to use photos of places that they would love to visit, that they havent yet been to. If you know places that they might be going within the next year you could use that certain photo of that place. you could also add points of interest that they might like to visit while at that location on different days. And if they will be visiting you on a certain month, you could make that months photo a pic of you and your BF and maybe include a gift certificate to a cute little restraunt that they could enjoy while on their visit.
