bmw_38
Hi all, Just thought I'd see everyone's opinions on the DSLR's to keep an eye out for. I was thinking of the Canon XSi personally...what about you?
jenna8110
Personally I'm getting the Samsung TL225 point and shoot digital camera. It probably won't be on sale because it's brand new but I don't care! My friend has the Canon PowerShot sx20 and it takes AWESOME pics! :) http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t70/jenna8110/7124_1154160225667_1577542700_39455.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t70/jenna8110/7124_1154160385671_1577542700_39456.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t70/jenna8110/7124_1154161545700_1577542700_39456.jpg
freesia39
I have the XSi. Love it. Need to learn how to take better pictures, but overall, love it. When I was at Target earlier this week, I noticed the Nikon D40 was on clearance, if you're interested in something now.
samster35
All of my SLRS are canon i love them. I have the Xti and love it, the good thing about the Xsi is that it takes sd cards and not compact flash. You can get some great deals on those on bf. Also look out for the Xsi kit they also go on sale on bf. I got one for the Xti on black friday, it was a great deal.
KBsDarling
i still have a basic Digital and would LOVE to upgrade to an SLR but its uncharted waters...I know it depends on brand etc but what are the numbers? I mean at what pixel/resolution/whatever to what $$ is a deal now? Just curious what range I should be expecting on BF
wx4svr
I <3 my Nikon D90 and my D5000. Both are AWESOME cameras, and I got the D90 last year on BF! :) You truly can't go wrong with a Nikon. (Just remember: the more expensive the camera, the more expensive the lenses are usually)
freesia39
The approach I took with getting a starter DSLR was that I knew what the brands were out there, and what models were the "starter" ones. I looked at the Nikon D40, D60, and the Canon XSi. They just came out with a Nikon D3000 and I think Canon has some new ones coming out also. The number of MP's a camera has should not be the reason why you buy a camera - the MPs only tell you how big of a picture you can take, not how great the picture will turn out. Best Buy has this package for 749.97:http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9999117100050004&st=nikon+d60&lp=4&type=product&cp=1&id=pcmprd117200050004 It is the body, kit lens, an 55-200mm lens and a bag in one package. Try to find deals in that range for this camera. For the Canon XSi, BB has it for 699:http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8794691&st=canon+xsi&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1205537713445 But it is much cheaper at Amazon, which is where I bought mine. From there, I just looked at what each camera offered, compared the number of auto focus points, and the price... and then just bought the Canon anyways because I have owned only Canon cameras for quite a while. This hobby gets expensive though! I've been oogling additional lenses - I want a "portrait" type lens, and eventually a zoom lens. I also need to learn how to take better pictures, which is also going to cost me money.
KBsDarling
I am more looking for a better quality for at dds swim meets. They are typcially floursent lighting and needed to be way zoomed in and obviously the subject is moving LOL my point and shoot does ok outside http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs086.snc1/4600_90427094558_563404558_1875190_1752433_n.jpg but inside zoomed it just isnt as crisp http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs047.snc1/4169_84022289558_563404558_1796838_4888115_n.jpg or its way to dark http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs139.snc1/5929_100991464558_563404558_2033592_7829692_n.jpg So i dont know if I need the fanciest thing on the market. I just would like all pics to be as clear as the outdoor ones are currently no matter distance/lighting
samster35
Target right now has a deal on slrs where when you buy an slr and a lens you get a 100$ gift card.
freesia39
or its way to dark http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs139.snc1/5929_100991464558_563404558_2033592_7829692_n.jpg I tried editing the picture to make it bright, bring out more of the colors, and "cool" the color of the water so it's bluer, but the picture is still blurry. I think an SLR will help in your action shots, but if lighting overall is an issue (if it seems dark to your naked eye) then no fancy camera can fix it. Some of my favorite ones, no retouching: http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs196.snc1/6611_850205035156_2542216_48644446_7629951_n.jpg Outdoors. If I retouch the baseball and football game pics though I bet I can make them come out richer...
DumbPoet
I am seeking all advice on getting the best price on a Nikon D90 and compatible lenses. I would prefer the D90 as body only and a decent lens to go with it. This is the suggestion I received from the photo department at my news organization. So what method yielded the best results for you? Amazon, BF, eBay, Cyber Monday?

Check the ads when they come out, but I don't get the feeling I ever see the D90 bundled - I've seen the new Nikon and the Canon T1 (holy cow that's expensive but has HD video shooting.) Try a local camera store around BF - they may have a deal with a lens bundle.
CatandJacks
I am thinking of a Canon xsi. I like the Nikon d40 but it doesn't have auto focus for additional lenses which is a big draw back.
