The speakers are very good too. If you have a local staples, they should have both on display.

Yes for the fire (and I assume for the nook). Up to six (I believe) devices can be associated with one Amazon/Prime account. I don't allow purchases from the Fires (accidents happen) and manage purchases from a web browser. All the Fires can see all the stuff I've 'purchased' in the cloud and download whatever appeals.

^^^ this is a problem ^^^ You might want to chat with him about how he uses the touch, how much stuff he owns from the apple store, and how he would improve it if Apple hired him. You'll get an idea as to how he feels about Apple stuff, tablets, and portable devices which may help you buy a gift that will be taken out of the box. For people who are not sure, I recommend the Fire. It's very inexpensive to own one of these. The device is relatively cheap, you can immediately download hundreds of apps and books for free, and enjoy a free trial of Prime with it's lending library, streaming media, and (for you) free shipping. By the end of the Prime trial, you should have a good idea of how you feel about the device and the Amazon ecosystem. I think you will find your $200 investment rewarded, but, if you do not, you are only out the $200 -- though I suspect you will be able to return the Fire.

Different topic, different proposition. $80 one time fee for a dedicated device vs $30 per month for a data plan...we could go on forever, but let's confine the topic to a discussion of BF deals GPS devices.

Radioshack has a 5" Garmin 50LM for $99.99 -- you get $10 cash back for each $50 spent, so add a fuse to get this for $80. Staples has the 4" 40LM for $89.99. Both have lifetime maps which is key to happiness. Since you are a first time user of a GPS, I suggest you do a little research. You really should read the thread before posting. It doesn't take that long to parse ten pages of posts and asking the same questions only makes threads longer for those who follow. There is also a strong possibility that in reading the ten pages you will learn something that someone does not post in response to your query. If you really do not have time to read ten pages of posts on an item that you are planning to spend more than $100 on, there is a search function at the top of the page.

You can. It costs $30 per month, but you can buy one month at a time. Before you leave for vacation, just call verizon and have it enabled. So that should get you what you need for minimal cost.

I recommend you talk to your cell phone vendor to see if you can use your phone as a wireless access point when you are at your cabin. The you can choose any tab you fancy.

Just Realized Black Friday Is Like Preparing For War!

dwc, I think you are shopping in the wrong places. -
I'd be shocked if the Nexus was a BF item anywhere. Staples did the gift cards last year for the Fire and Nook, but they do that during the year as well and they never ran out of either. Staples is usually the place I start my BF. My staples is very cordial and overstocked for BF. They rarely have amazing door busters, but I stock up on the ample deals on office and computer products. This year, I'm hoping for a quad core desktop. No pressure Good luck with your Nexus hunt.

I'm a huge Staples fan. Besides easy returns, there are lots of other advantages... 1) if you have a Discover card, check to see if you have cash back accumulated. You can purchase $25 Staples gift cards for $20 with cashback -- it's like getting 20% off Staples' best prices. 2) If you are a rewards member, you can accumulate rewards by recycling ink carts and purchasing items that pay rewards (between now and xmas, you will be able to earn ~$200 in rewards buying batteries 3) if you spend $1k (gross) annually at staples, you achieve premier status which allows you to hold rewards for six months and doubles the number of ink carts you can return per month Right now, I have $185 in rewards and another $110 pending for november and at least $80 for december plus $75 in gift cards via cashback. This will buy me a couple Fire HDs (plus new gift cards). Merry Christmas! If you purchase a Nexus for $199.99 from staples using discover cashback, it will cost you $160 (you could have applied the $160 cash back that bought the $200 in gift cards to your bill) plus you will be 20% of the way to rewards premier status. That's probably the best price you will get (although there are rumors of a $99 nexus). If you can be patient, there will probably be a gift card offer to further discount your nexus. If you sign up for rewards, you may find a special discount in your coupon wallet.

THIS is my favorite thing about BF -- the anticipation, the nostalgia, the discussion of products and deals. I start checking in late in August hoping someone else wants to talk about BF. Thanks for making this so much fun. Before GottaDeal, BF was just a sale. -
This is not true.

I get that, but Cowboom is Best Buy and they are very good to do business with.

I don't think so, but you can look at the dimensions in various modes using the calculator here... http://www.cavecreations.com/tv2.cgi

http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57336998-285/how-to-read-your-nook-books-on-the-kindle-fire/ not really that big a deal.
-
You can read nook stuff on a fire.
-
I thought the math was obvious -- the Fire HD is a tablet with specs that compare favorably to the Mini at a price that is $150 to $180 less than the Mini.
-
The mini is too big. The Kindle Fire slides into a back or front pocket or a jacket or sweat shirt pocket. The Fire HD is a little wider but still gets into that back pocket. The mini won't fit easily into a pocket. I wonder where the size came from. I guess they wanted to be bigger than the rest of the small tabs, but I think they got it wrong.

People Gottadeal With the Stores That Most Appeal To Save Cash For Real -
By comparison, Staples is selling the Fire HD for $200 with a $20 gift card next week. That's $180 or a $150 discount. About half the price of the Apple Mini.
