  1. Walmart just cancelled my order. Looks like Amazon is going to have a Big Christmas season.
  2. I have never been able to get my head around this. Clearly, people who do this have to leave the line from time to time during their wait. How does that work? Can you set up a tent on Monday and return in four days? Do you tag team so that at least one person is in the camp? Do 'late comers' join the campers? At what time does this become inappropriate? Are you allowed one or two latecomers? Must they be in line three hours before the doors open? Is there some kind of informal union among those who are assured a doorbuster to protect the position of the others? Even when I have lined up a couple hours early, I see people enter the front of the line in the hour leading up to the opening. I can't imagine someone who slept on a curb being very happy that a tent manned by a single person for four days becomes a hive of anticipation in the hours before opening. What do you pros see?
  3. I have one which I had worn regularly, but I have outgrown it. I figured Brad, having read my amazing haiku and appreciating the bang up work I've done in the laptop, desktop, and tablet topics, would overnight me one, but it looks like another year in the pumpkin patch for me...

  8. I think it would be decent, but for really good OpenGL (which is what Minecraft uses to draw the screens), you'd want to add a discreet video card. With this system, you can do that since there is an available PCIe slot. If you are looking for a turnkey solution, one of the trinity boxes would run Minecraft better.
  9. The Lenovo i5 on p3 of the staples ad is not excluded. For $400, that's an AMAZING computer. I just got my price adjusted (I thought it was a good deal at $459).

  13. I like the toshiba too, but, other than price -- maybe including price -- the biggest difference between the two is the screen size. Besides giving you more to look at, the toshiba's bigger screen will make the computer heavier and reduce battery life. If you are going to use the laptop as a 'portable desktop' the bigger screen will be a plus, but if you plan to balance the laptop on your knees in the park, the 15" might be easier to handle and will likely hold a charge longer.
  14. Just curious -- who is they?

  19. that has nothing to do with wifi. if it will play netflix, it should say so in the specs. if you are not sure, post the model here.
  20. Mine is. I don't think that will be the most popular doorbuster. It's kind of big and heavy to lug around. The kids seem to like the 14" models. Most people lean towards intel. Of the laptops on the cover of the ad, I think this is the only one that doesn't have an 'at least x per store' note. Either they have a lot of these or than have none. We can figure that out Friday afternoon, I guess.
  21. For you, I really like this... Staples - Lenovo Desktop w/ Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HDD $449.99 That's what I bought for myself and I have similar objectives. Here's why I like it... - case has accomodations for two additional disks - PCIe slot for improved graphics if appropriate, though HD 4000 is capable out of the box - HDMI connector for second display - Fast CPU with upgrade path to i7 - 7200rpm 1t disk - Quad core for multitasking - 8g of RAM It's all packed in a really nice case that is spacious without taking up a lot of room. I have three monitors on my desk. I use a Mygica USB 2.0 to HDMI DVI VGA 1080P DisplayLink Adapter to connect the third screen. I use a couple of these to extend my laptop at work. They run from $30-$40 shipped most of the time.
  22. I would definately go with a 17" model. I really like that HP at $400.
  23. For the kindle, hit radio shack. You get $10 back per $50 spent, so add a paperclip to get to $200 and you get $40 back to spend on case, batteries, whatever.
  24. How are dad's eyes? Will he be using this on the run or are you looking for a 'portable desktop'? For old farts like me, this may be more fun... Staples: HP 17.3" Laptop w/ AMD A8 Quad-Core, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD (G7-2243US) $399.99
