All-In-One Computer Deals For Black Friday?
len_mullen replied to Ravenmaniac's topic in Black Friday Discussion
I think it's fine. The lenovo gives you a bigger screen, twice as much storage, and a faster CPU for the same price. -
I bought my first HDTV in 2009. It was a 720p Samsung plasma. Still looks great.

All-In-One Computer Deals For Black Friday?

You're welcome. If you are a Costco member, I like the Lenovo. It's $150 more than the least expensive models, but 27" touchscreen, Ryzen 5 7535HS, 16GB RAM, and 1TB SSD put it head and shoulders above the rest. -

I'm looking at these for kids who primarily play games on a television... Hisense 65-Inch Class U7 Series Mini-LED Pro ULED 4K UHD Google Smart TV (65U7N) - QLED Quantum Dot Color, Dolby Vision, Native 144Hz, Up to 1500-Nit, Full Array Local Dimming, Motion Rate 480 - Walmart.com Hisense and TCL are my favorite 'budget' televisions. At $698, these do not exactly qualify as budget, but you get a lot of value for your dollar. 144hz for gaming is excellent. With the ATSC 3.0 tuner, you should be able to pick up FREE HDTV with a mud flap antenna in the right window. Google TV is a good OS, but you can always switch to Roku or FireTV by adding an inexpensive dongle. I assume you are looking to upgrade a desktop not a laptop. The requirements for your most demanding application (Premiere Pro) are Intel® 11th Gen or newer CPU with Quick Sync, Windows 10 (64-bit) version 22H2 (or later) or Windows 11, 16 GB of RAM for HD media or 32 GB or more for 4K and higher, 8 GB of GPU memory, fast internal SSD for app installation and cache, additional high-speed drive(s) for media, 1920 x 1080 or greater display, and HDR 1000 for HDR workflows. Quick Sync is a feature of Intel integrated graphics. CPUs with integrated graphics do not have an F designation. I would get a 12th gen i5/i7 to avoid the 13/14 gen drama. If your case, PSU, and cooling are adequate, and you are game an upgrade, consider something like this... GIGABYTE B760M DS3H DDR4 Bundle with Intel 12600K and G.SKILL F4-3200C16D-32GVK and a big, fast SSD. Clone your existing system onto the SSD (assuming Windows 10x64 or Windows 11). Should be fun.

Sure. Best thing to do is sit down and make a list of the things you want to do with the laptop. Then make a list of the applications you will use to do those things. Find the most demanding application and note its system requirements and recommended specs. Then consider how you will be using the laptop. How long will you need it to run on a battery? How big a screen is best for you. Once we know these things, we can compile a list of laptops that you can comfortably run for years. I typically get a decade out of a desktop and half that out of a laptop. As for the processor, i7 is a marketing term. For Intel, each generation of CPU features good enough (i3), good (i5), better (i7), and best (i9). Typically, power use and price increase and battery life decreases as you climb to 'best'. So long as you exceed the recommended specs for your most demanding application, which CPU got you there will not be that important. PassMark CPU Benchmarks - New Laptop CPUs Performance

Black Friday 2024 Countdown & Anticipation Thread
len_mullen replied to Brad's topic in Black Friday Discussion
If your Christmas Spirit is measured by shopping, I suggest you spread your shopping over the entire fourth quarter. Shopping doesn't mean buying. Walk around malls, visit small cities, and check out stores you have never been in before. You might find some great gifts even if they are not 'deals'. Take a friend, stop somewhere for happy hour, and get dinner. Maybe see a Christmas movie. Do some other stuff. My youngest and I plan to visit Plimouth Plantation or Sturbridge Village this month and will tour Strawberry Banks some snowy day in December. We'll shop and dine and enjoy the season. You should too. My wife used to play her favorite Christmas movies while she decorated the tree and house. Christmas Eve, once the kids were asleep, was a party for two. I miss that. When my namesake was in grade school, he started to become skeptical about Santa. That Christmas Eve, as we were putting the gifts under the tree, the missus stumbled and dropped an armful of gifts right over his bedroom. She waited quietly until she was sure he was asleep and sneaked downstairs with the gifts. The next morning our son was up bright and early completely reassured that Santa was real as he heard the sleigh land on the roof. Best Christmas ever. Merry Christmas!! -
LOL. Maybe if it is tropical...or snowing...or I win a t-shirt -- I'm kind of committed to posting selfies here, right? I am not impressed with the ads. I am a patient shopper. I have been accumulating gifts since January and have really gotten some amazing deals over the last few months. That said, I do like being out BF. Last couple years I have slept in and headed out after breakfast. Between the online stuff and the post-BF deals, I've done fine. 99c Bloody Marys would get me out earlier -- especially if accompanied by a breakfast buffet, but my days of standing online for hours for a doorbuster are probably behind me.

GottaDEAL 2025 Prize Club Discussion Thread

Today I made a purchase via Walmart.com that included a one year Walmart+ subscription at half off. This subscription includes Paramount+ Essential (ad-supported) as well as ad-free content on Pluto TV. And, of course, free shipping and early access to deals. I would us no other features. The cost is $49 for one year ($4.08/month). Should I decline the offer, I get a free trial of unspecified duration (I assume one month). Any opinions, recommendations, or comments would be appreciated. Also, in for November -
GottaDEAL 2024 Prize Club Discussion Thread

Not really in the mood for Black Friday yet. A little too overwhelmed with life to relax and plan an assault on the retail industry at this time. My remedy is the kitchen and I have been in the kitchen since dawn with breaks to strip my garden of all dignity. In the background, I have been enjoying 'guilty pleasure' movies. Right now, I am watching 'The Blues Brothers'. I probably have it on disc or in my Plex library, but I am watching on Pluto TV. So, you can too. If you have never watched this gem, click the link and you're welcome. If you have seen it and cannot remember why you should see it again, let me help. "Joliet" Jake and his brother, Elwood were a staple Saturday Night Live skit when SNL was funny. All the magic of those skits have been jammed into the concert scene. The cast includes John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Carrie Fisher, John Candy, Twiggy, Steve Lawrence, and Frank Oz. If you are not smiling, move along. Enjoy! -
What’s on your Black Friday shopping list?
len_mullen replied to brushstrokes's topic in Black Friday Discussion
My BF list is empty. I will populate it as the ads come out. Then I will prune and sort it so I spend my time -- especially the early hours -- at the store that promises the most bang for my buck. -
Born in 1962, I actually had a lot of those toys in my youth. Pretty sure the American Flyer train is in a box in my attic. My father assembled a small town around a simple round train track. There's a picture of him 'helping' newborn me control the train. I had a replica rifle with bolt action and a rubber bayonet. The bayonet was confiscated the very first day...but what a day that was! The 43" Ride-Able fire engine, however, would be my pick. In September, my siblings and I visited our oldest sister. I brought a laptop with me that housed my father's 8mm movies. I recorded the conversation as we watched. It won't be long before no one knows who is on those reels. I plan to add the 'soundtrack and drop the whole thing onto DVD. Just such a fire engine was prominently featured in the earliest movies. Good times.
