  1. In a review, someone noted that the i5 processor in the Best Buy Dell for $349 was 5th generation-any opinions on that? Should that be a deal breaker-is there a significant difference between that one and the newest (7th) generation?
  2. Where is the mayor of Best Buy tent city? It is not Black Friday unless BigJimSlade says hi.
  3. MicroCenter is always last or near last to be leaked-I think the way to get into Fort Knox is less closely guarded than their ad. Why?
  4. One year at Wal-Mart-big mistake-was pretty close to the front, but behind me was some guy who, for the entire two-three hours on line, periodically yelled, "Hut-1-2-3", like it was going to be a football scrimmage breaking out. Once the doors opened, there was a near-riot at the electronics counter, with people diving to get the laptops, etc. (I was there for a small item). On my way out, police were on the way in.
  5. It is not pre-Black Friday without BigJimSlade...
  6. NYC Metro stores:any success re: tissues? Two stores, plenty of Laura Ashley tissues-come up INF, upon further checking, "last" selling price comes up $1.49 (not on clearance).
  7. Friday morning, Target in Farmingdale, NY: got there about 12:30, was about 35 people back-sat through wind blown rain for 3 and 1/2 hours, was told by the one employee who we saw that there would be no tickets for the 40" Westinghouse-it would be first come, first serve-when doors opened, mad rush for TVs (maps of store were distributed on line)-scene quickly turned ugly, with huge grabbing and jostling-managed to grab a TV, and carry it away, but got kicked in ankle in the process. Checked out quickly, got $10 gift card, and headed for Toys R Us in Massapequa-got Sylvania Tablet for $139 at about 4:45 AM, there were about 6 left. Other smaller stops ensued- Best Buy, Macys, Michaels. All in all a successful Black Friday, but Target dodged a huge bullet re: TV grab. I really thought someone was going to get hurt-I have no idea why management did not do tickets for an item that they only had about 50 of.
  8. Does anyone have any thoughts/info re: markdown of 3rd generation Ipod touchs? All local stores are currently at $269 for 32GB.
  9. Who will take over mayoral duties for BigJim? We got trouble, right here in Tent City!
  10. The mall where this particular WalMart is located has been the scene of numerous violent incidents over the last several years, including armed robberies and shootings. Unfortunately, the population served by this particular store would be classified as "socioeconomically challenged"-which, obviously, has morphed into being "decency" challenged. Most Long Islanders know to avoid this mall in general, and this WalMart in particular. At another WalMart on Long Island, which serves a similar customer base, I witnessed a near riot condition a few years back for the $299 laptops, where police where summoned into the store. It is unfortunate that store management placed their employees in a situation where they had to attempt to somewhat "control" this crowd. Although the behavior of these barbaric individuals can never be condoned, the store certainly was/is aware of the mall and community demographics and incident history. I will never again be at a WalMart at their opening on BF, unless the police presence rivals that assigned to Yankee games, for example (scores of armed officers, police canine units, and a mobile arrest processing unit). I am sure that most law abiding, decent, and moral Long Islanders and New Yorkers agree. May the gentleman who was murdered (and I do use the term "murdered") rest in peace, and prayers go to his family and friends.
  11. Interesting, Jim. Hey, Jim, by the way, a couple of Oscar questions: 1. How does "Wizard of Oz" lose to "Gone With the Wind" in '39? (should have tied). 2. How does "E.T." lose to "Gandhi" in '82? (Academy out of touch with the masses?):)
  12. It seems that these ads, along with a few others, seem to be better guarded than the gold deposited at Fort Knox!! How is it possible for them to do this? I can't help but wonder.
  13. Does anyone have any info. re: price matching problems that involve store B refusing to price match store A if store A's ad says something like "Minimum, 5 per store, etc." (as in Best Buy's ad)?
  14. Thanks, Brad and mods-I think this was mentioned before-page 4 is missing, but page 25 is in twice.
  15. Congratulations, Mr. Mayor!!! Big Jim, the Tent City says you're the man!!:)
  16. Obviously, it depends on your particular store/manager-if they were organized and put in the preparation time, then you had a great experience. If not, it could have been chaos-for me, in Massapequa, NY, it was chaos because, although the managers arrived early, most of the employees did not, and of those that did, most seemed to not do much except sit around. They gave out tickets for the TV's, but for nothing else. What went wrong: 1)NO LINE SECURITY-several people tried to bum rush the doors, several arguments/near fights broke out 2)Anyone who wanted a GPS had to get it at the ONE register that was open in the Copy Center-line there was huge, and backed up, even as I headed out, having luckily been #5 in line. 3)If you wanted a GPS and anything else, unless you had someone with you, you had to wait for the GPS, pay for it, then scurry about, hopefully having the other items left. 4)Most sale/doorbuster items were not easy to find-they were either scattered about or at the regular checkout registers. I agree with the OP-if Staples wants to be a player on BF, EVERY STORE SHOULD BE ORGANIZED, AND PREPARE. I hope corporate is listening. I intend to send this to them.
  17. SMOOOOTH-no problem in Levittown, NY!
  18. Moondancer-Why are you down on the Tru-tech at Target?
  19. Hi-Is staples ad changed? Original GD scan shows a laminator free after rebate; Staples website version omits this. Any info?
  20. Hi-can I ask how you know that this is a Toshiba-I can not make out any info.on make/model # from the scan, as it is quite blurry, even on zoom. Did you see an actual copy? Thanks.
