  1. Most of the time with store retailers you're stuck with what comes in the box. :( Which nowdays is Vista all around. If 'ya want an XP OS, or anything other than Vista, you gotta buy a second OS installation CD and I don't think Vista can downgrade well so it's gotta be a full version. The only way around this I know of is to buy from Dell who is one of the last manufacturers that offers XP or Vista as a choice.

Check the other thread to read about other options available to 'ya if you're stuck with Vista. (OEM CDs, eBay, or just buying more memory).

I can always add more memory -- all the ones I've been looking at can be upgraded, and it's not that much for memory. Frankly, if I didn't have to use this thing for work, I wouldn't need to worry about the extra memory, so it might almost be a bonus to buy the basic computer, then buy the extra memory and bill it to my company since THAT's the difference maker between what I want for me and what I would need for work. Neither here nor there though *laugh*

Just wasn't sure if the geek squad guys or others like them could do that.

Does Dell have a BF or CyberMonday sale?

  2. I was just there yesterday and asked about this (not as a BF issue, but in general).

I saw a camera online at a different store for less than at the store at BB. They said they would price match IF it was the same item, and IF the item was available at the physical store. It didn't have to be the one NEXT to BB, for example -- just in the city where someone would have the reasonable expectation of going to go get it.

    Just my 2 cents i guess :)

  3. Just went by Best Buy yesterday to get a feel for the cameras, and ours had most of the SLRs pulled from display. Couldn't get a straight answer as to why. :gdparanoid:

I did try out a Sony and a Cannon (can't remember the model numbers). Both were $299, 10x. The Sony was able to manually push to ISO 3200, which is really good for me. However, haven't heard much about the Sony cameras. Sales guy did say that both of those had slight delay times. But for $300 less than the Nikon D40 or the Rebel, how much of a delay time is there and is worth the difference?!?!

Anyways, I'd love to be able to sit there and try them all out at the same time and see how fast I can take the pics. I may not camp out for BF, but hopefully there will be a good sale that weekend on something else and I'll get some more BB bucks -- already have $120 worth :P

  4. I bought a little Insignia MP3 player that has 3 full length ballets and about another 100 songs on it, and it's still not full! It cost me about 80$, but I just saw it for 60$. Great sound. No arm band though, which stinks, but I bought the armband for a Sansa and it works fine.

Still thinking on getting a little bit more of an upgrade and giving my insignia to my DH.

  5. Well, back after a year!!

I'm looking for a camera this year, too, although I'd rather get it earlier than BF. I need one with good zoom (to get DD on stage dancing) and the ability to take those pics without a flash!! My dad's old 35 mm does this, but it's 2007 -- you'd think one of the other Digitals would do this.

DH broke my Nikon coolpix that was 3 yrs old. That's okay though, my CELL PHONE takes better pics than that old thing! Anyways, thinking on the Nikon D40 or something similar.

Can't wait til the ads! :D

Thanks :D I'll have to look into that and what exactly the MRs are for this. I've actually never had much problem with the rebate checks, but you never know.

  7. I've given up on the standing in line -- it's just simply going to be too long out there and seems like everyone is after computers or TVs this year.

So that having been said, I need your expert advice. I need a basic PC/laptop (prefer laptop) just for surfing the net, playing a few MSN games on it, maybe some fantasy football. Burning is okay but not needed -- our other PC burns CDs/DVDs.

    1. Brands?

    2. Good site for this?

    3. New or refurbished? (saw this on ebay-- some from the manufacturer)

    TIA

  8. wow....awesome deals! But now that those have been added, I'm sure BB will be so crowded I won't be able to get anything, and I just don't see myself camping out turkey day and night and then the am before it opens for a laptop

I may just ebay one or just wait til I go on vacation in Florida (less sales tax...BY A LOT) and just get it as a christmas gift. I bet they'll go crazy with the whole pre-christmas sales then, too (23, 24th).

  9. I'd watch the new one with DeVito and Broderick. At least that looks funny.

Other than that National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is great.

Yes, I am one of a few blasphemers that HATE COMPLETELY TOTALLY HATE SAPPY CHRISTMAS MOVIES :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:

  10. I'm in Tulsa OK and there are some real diehards here including me...lol We are gonna have to be at our BB on Wed night after store closing to get the things that we want. We take turns with another group of 3 for 2 hours at a time on Turkey Day to go and eat with our families them back to line we go only to leave for potty break or a food run til the store opens. We have alot of fun with this every year but are going about 12 hours ealier this year becaue we want to be first in line. I love being first and knowing that you can get everything that is on my list.

    Anyone else?

I don't know about THAT early because we have another BB in this area now, but depending on the weather and how my kid is doing (I really don't want to leave her home with her daddy watching football all day if she's still sick) I may do Thanksgiving dinner around lunch time, and then head over to the BB around 2-3 p.m. Figure most guys will still be watching football, and most women will still be dealing with the meals.

  11. Targets response to layaway questions is usually :

Do you have a Target Credit Card?

That is what they want you to do instead of layaway, open a credit card. Not necessarily a bad thing, if you can control your spending.

Not a bad thing...but when you consider ALL the stores that this is done at, and how many folks do this just to "get a few things" by the time the holidays are done, they have a ton of high-interest cards instead of just using a layaway type program to give them a couple of extra weeks of buffers. People that layaway are NOT all deadbeats. All these cards show up as open on your credit report, and good luck getting them to come off later.

I liked the layaway concept. Doing that for our bedroom furniture just because I didn't want to shell out all the $$ at once, and it was stupid to open a credit card at 25% or whatever to pay it off.

The no interest things are fine at first, but then that builds in, and people like that buffer, so they don't pay until later. ON ALL OF THEM.

I always turn them down. Then they look at me like I'm an idiot for not opening a whole new card to save 5$ on an item.

  12. Brand is Element Electronics, which is supposedly rebadged Polaroid or Mag. I picked up 3 last night and came to $382 each for me after using 20% off coupon. :D

Is this TV brand any good? I don't remember seeing any TV's out on display at our HD and don't want to go stand in line/buy something just because the price is low :)

  13. who makes the emachine?..I have never heard of them until this yr

Don't know if it's still the case (Experts help! :D ) but Emachines was a subsidiary of Gateway. Kind of the whole cheaper cousin thing.

I had one once at one of my jobs and it wasn't a bad computer. At that price I would get it, but still debating standing out there for it. Lucky for us, there's another BB around here, over at the huge mall (Galleria) so since that one has the mall, WM and Target in a neat little triangle, hopefully that will mean that our BB will be thinned out this year.

    We'll see.
