  1. I'll put a plug in for the Panasonic Plasma TV - we bought one almost 9 YEARS ago. Just now seeing the faintest bit of that "black bar" on the sides. It's been set to "vivid" since then, and with my work schedule vs my husband's schedule, that sucker stays on almost the entire day, especially with the little ones watching TV. Not only that, it's been moved from homes 3 times, and my son took a particular delight when a toddler to smack the screen WITH BLOCKS - nothing. No breaks, no warping, no cracks, nothing! We're looking for a replacement mostly because the one in our bedroom is an RCA that is well over 20 years old and THAT one is finally going. Not that I have it in the budget this year with the kids' things, but I will do my best to get another Panasonic Viera before they all disappear. Love love love our TV.
  2. So apparently they just announced on NBC Channel 2 here in Buffalo that they're going to have "teams" of people who are going to be in line nationwide for doorbusters at the biggest stores (Best Buy, Walmart, etc), armed with U-Haul trucks and the like. They will be camping out "shoulder to shoulder" as they said with other shoppers, purchase all the doorbuster ticket items, bring them back to WNY, then resell them through wgrz.com and offers.com (I believe that's the site they partnered up with). I don't know that that's fair! These people are basically being hired to stand in line and then take the items out of your areas to bring them here. Then people can purchase the items online. The news website is wgrz.com. I don't know that they have everything the guy just said online yet, but thought I'd share this. Thoughts? Frankly, I hate it. Not for us, because they're not camping out HERE, but there are people who get there plenty early fair and square that now might not get their item because a news crew is buying ticketed items. Edit to add - Mods, I don't know where this kind of thread/post goes, so feel free to move. Thanks.
  3. I was just at Target yesterday and didn't see them. Wondering when they'll be out?
  4. you guys are lucky...I still don't have my shipping code....I did get the shutterfly book code so that might make a good gift for Grandma and Grandpa
  5. I went back in about every 5 min and it would fluctuate between available and sold out. I finally managed to get one and the Samsung for $179. Missed out on the GC, but my daughter said she didn't care about it being white or not because she wanted to get one of those skins later on. Let's just say my health is worth that $20 GC LOL I'll be picking hers up this afternoon and the Nabi should be here by the 3rd.
  6. So I'm not that tech savvy either...how much would an 8 GB kindle hold? IE, movies/tv episodes for a road trip? We have Wifi here at home, and I know Kindle's not expandable...TIA
  7. I'm not judging those who work and choose to use vacation time. I'd love a job with vacation time, but I don't have that luxury - or sick time for that matter. I don't work, I don't get paid. But at least I have a job so won't complain too much But the guys I saw in line at this one were college students/young looking so they're more than likely on mom and dad's dime, and that does bother me. The placeholder concept bothers me too, because someone shouldn't hold a spot for multiple people (which happened to me one year at Walmart - lady was holding a spot for 10 friends). So I'll just hope for the best online, and have a Plan A, Plan B, Plan C....Plan Z...or just wing it
  8. For the Sears Galaxy, this is what I've been getting: "Due to high demand, this item is temporarily only available for purchase in stores."
  9. I can only hope!! But they had quite a few supplies if it was just a 4 hr wait.
  10. Went on a scout trip to Best Buy last night, and there were 7 PEOPLE lined up already, with 3 more joining them. Mind you this is outside, and while it's now snowing here yet, our temps are dropping into the 20s at night. I left the store beyond sad - I mean there's no chance for someone like me with a family, job, and health issues to get any deals if they're letting people just camp out now. My daughter goes "mom are you still going to be able to get my tablet?" Ugh! Overtime, here I come!!!
  11. On their facebook page there seem to be some people having issues with it...also a few amazon reviews, and a couple of other sites
  12. Boy by the looks of this thread tablets are going to be the hot item this year! So kept reading more and more about the Nabi 2 and how folks aren't happy with it (some). To keep my options open, what are some other tablets/brands that are capable of withstanding a 3 to 4 year old? As a caveat, he uses my husband's very thin Samsung Galaxy II with no problems and has used an Ipad before - I'm just concerned about him dropping it (I have a Kevlar-type case around my phone, for example). Looking at a Samsung Tab for DD11 and he'll just have to access Nick Jr using the internet browser or something. He says "santa can bring both the Vtech and an Ipad mamma - it's a big sleigh you know". LOL Yeah, mamma's not doing that. Thanks so much everyone.
  13. I'll vouch for the quality of Toshiba laptops, as I work from home and usually do so next to my very wild toddler. For example, he likes to hit golf balls off the back of the laptop...he also punches the keys to try to get me to "stop". It's been hit several times with small footballs - works great, no cracks in the screen. Only issue right now is that it makes this popping noise if I open and close it, but it does open and close, and I've had it for 2 1/2 years now, and type probably 60 hrs/wk on it for work. Just my 2 cents Hate HP computers and laptops, btw, so I share some sentiments on here.
  14. Thanks for the quick reply the apps I'm looking for specifically for the little one are Jake and some other ones that seem to be only in the ITunes store. But at least now I know.
